Does the official patch change how tough the Dark Brotherhood assassins are? I'm trying to rest to gain a level, but I keep getting an assassin showing up. I've tried trapping him in the bunkbed next to me, but he can still hit me and escapes being stuck. His weapon looks daedric and it really packs a punch.

This is GotY edition with Tribunal and Bloodmoon and latest official patch.

I think it happens when you sleep in Balmora, but not elsewhere. In my case, it was twice in a row.
They'rw tough to kill, but they have great gear if you use light armor.

If you're tired of the harassment and already have a set of DB armor, just pop in to Tribunal and pop back out. Once you do that the flow of assassins stops, and you don't have to mess with Tribunal until you want to.

The assassins can appear anywhere, however they are random appearances (I had one come after me on a mountain on Solstrime) I don't know the specific percentage chance for appearance. If you get tired of it, just do what Fel suggested. Less trouble that way.

On the X-box version, you only ever see one until you actually try to do something about it...

Kind of sad really as the armour has great resale value...

Aye, though IIRC, you technically only have to speak with that 'recently arrived' Legion bigwig in Ebonhart - not actually zap over to Mournhold yet. Not that it makes any real difference; it's not like the tele costs you anything. :D

And yeah, the DBs can be a real nuisance after a while; they upgrade from dwemer 'venomblades' (or sumtin) to ebony shortswords enchanted with paralyse.

I remember my first encounter with that when I took a nap, expecting to farm another suit of DB light armor (Sam Fisher, anyone? ;) ) and not only did the weapon upgrade occur, but two assassins came after me this time - died & reloaded twice that time before I had the sense to change my kit to handle the paralysis... :p

Great resale is true - I remember going to ANY armorer in Vardenfell and seeing them wearing a full suit of the stuff. :D

The main reason I have Tribunal activated is to get the armor for resale. Some games I have been overwhelmed by the DB and others had only a few hits. Seems to be very random.

I have the X-box GotY edition, and only ever see one DB assassin...

Well, now the point I got two, I was about level thirty or forty or so (that armour and those 2000gp ebony darts are just so attractive for resale, I couldn't resist 'farming' them - Salamis was 'richer than Crossus' by that point). And I was playing the pre-GotY PC version, with just core game and Tribunal with no mods. I think some major patches came out for everything with the release of Bloodmoon/GotY...

An interesting tangent that has just occurred to me: all the DB assassins sent after you on Vvardenfell are revealed to be dunmer when you loot them...having never played Tribunal (yet) do you ever see any other races as active members in the Dark Brotherhood?
