Winterwind Productions has posted part 2 of its interview with the former BIS developer Damien "Puuk" Foletto. The lengthy interview covers two games that didn't make it before BIS died: Baldur's Gate 3 and Fallout 3. Here's a snip regarding BG3:

WW: Had Jefferson [Baldur's Gate 3. -Ed] lived to see the light of day, as both a designer and gamer, how do you think it would have stacked up against Black Isle's previous D&D titles?

DF: It would have toppled them in both depth and overall game play, I have no doubt. It would have been RPG of the year. Granted, this is my opinion based on what I know from the project, but as a gamer, I would have thoroughly enjoyed playing the game. I would have liked more than just 8 levels in the first outing, but that’s just a style preference.

That was a depressing read. Both Fallout 3 and Baldur's Gate 3 sounded fantastic, and no developer is taking cues from the game design there. Instead, everyone's opting for Diablo clones.
