Ok, pretty much every powergamer has heard about level-squatting by now.. but I just took a look into the MONCRATS.2DA file and found out a nice figure.

If one manages to level-squat all the way to HOF mode Ice Temple revisit (yeah right..) and has max level 3 party, there's a nice reward for such a feat. That will say.. *drumroll* 5,514,800 experience points for one killed Gelugon!

A bit more realistic goal would be to get to Ice Temple in HOF mode and have, say, a three-person party at level 15 or so. (Starting fresh in HOF mode and not advancing past level 15 would do the trick.) Adding three mules would take the average level down to 8.. and all of a sudden the golems in that area would be worth tens to hundreds of thousands per pop. Something to think about, maybe?

    Now you're just getting silly!

Especially as you would get to 30th level after about 2 encounters - and then all the extra XP is wasted.

If you´re gonna play with three characters, what level would they normally get by the end of IWD2 without HOF?

Who cares what level they get to? Just take some extra characters, let them stay at L1 (protect them with sanctuary, Otiluke's Resilient Sphere, or Invisibility Sphere), and you drag down your average level, a lot.

The reason I asked was because say you get to level 23 anyway (or something) then I dont see the great benefit. And I am one of those powergamers. But why play if you dont have fun. And as I see it, this wouldn´t be fun.

With the level squatting and mixing low and high level, I was still able to max everyone out by the time the Yuan ti temple was finished.

I just though it was hilarious that one could (in theory) receive more than enough EXP from just a single slain monster to raise a whole six-person party to level 30, and still have several millions of EXP as left-overs..

They put safeguards in Diablo II to avoid 1st level characters to level up too fast by joining a group of level 50+ characters. 95% EXP penalty when monsters are over 9 levels above oneself until the character has reached level 25 (in D2) is a rather elegant way of solving this "level-squat to the extremes" dilemma.
