whilst loading a map, a messege came up telling me that i can make custom voice packs

I thought this would be easy by just creating my own .wav files and putting them into the right folder

however, it isnt as easy as this could sum 1 pleease talk me through or give me a guide on how to do this.

    cheers,
    ste

The game's README explains how to do this. You must name your files in a certain way and place them in the Sounds directory. You can then select that soundset from the character customization screen.

I think there is something else you have to do tho... For example, .wav files that play on Windows Media Player won't play in the game, while the .wav files that come with the game won't play on Windows Media Player. IIRC, the readme files don't go into detail as to the way the .wav files need to be formated for the game, though it does give the naming conventions, etc.

This doesn't have anything to do with converting .wav files to .acm, does it?

Normal WAV files will work fine in the game.

You don't have to do that, no.

Sound files in BG are stored as WAVC (.wav compressed) but as Andyr has already said, your custom WAV files should work fine. (Although the sound quality might not be the best, considering that the sound you add is self-made, so amateur creation, but this does not matter)

There are exceptions to the rule, but this is not one of them.

OK, so I checked on what I had done earlier; the .wav files I had that didn't work ended up working after I had converted them to .acm and then back to .wav. Odd, no?

LOL! One of the most prolific BG2 voicer/recordists on the internet, and JCompton responds with a one-liner on this question. :) ?

Here's your basic READ-ME style chart of the sound set for BG2, and the format of the WAV files -

Here's a link with more info on improving your voice recording set up:

    Hope this helps.

Well, that doesn't mean that I want to spend all day discussing it, either. :)

Plus which, yeah, I've done several hundred mod voicing lines but I've really only done ONE PC-ready soundset, the Jasper one.

Kelsey's could be adapted to a PC.

Curiously, there hasn't been a whole lot of demand for that. :)

You're Cespenar from Item Upgrade also, right? Me thinks so, yes?

What if I converted Cespenar's voice for use as a PC. Heck, he's got enough lines to make a full party worth of soundsets. How "fun" would that be!
