Has anyone played one? I'm going to play one starting with a level 5 wizard. Not going to take any fighter as I don't want to lose anymore than 1 spell level (from level 1 eldritch knight).

How strong is this class? I know it has less HP than a warrior, but the high BAB and spell casting ability make it seem almost over powered. You could switch from spell casting like crazy to sell buffing then slapping on full plate and tearing apart the melee realm.

I'm thinking of going this or a ranger, because I like dual wielding (and my wizard currently has spell casting prodigy, martial weapon proficiency and two weapon fighting) and rangers get that for free. Btw.. do ranger get the critical hit spell in NWN2?

I don't think it's a good idear. Don't you wear armor as an Eldritch Knight? Duelist is probably better if you want a combat Wizard.

Its a powerhorse. Did you ever like playing with fighter\mage's? fighter2\Wizard8\EK10 and you'll end up with 4 attacks per round, lv 9 spells, higher than normal mage hitpoints, high BAB, and, after buffs, everything you meet'll go pop.

Do they get armor proficiencies? I'm not sure, but if not you really should take a level of fighter to get the required Martial Weapons Prof and armor profs. There's a light armor you can buy which has zero spell failure but otherwise isn't great.

I messed around with one a bit but found it to be a not-so-great fighter mixed with a not-so-powerful wizard. Sorc/Paladin/EK might be decent though.

It doesn't give you any armor or weapon proficiencies, hence the fighter levels (these levels for BAB as well). As for spell failure, well, protection buffs aside, there is such a thing as mythril which reduces the amount of spell failure. Currently, I'm running around with an EK with monkey grib, a quarterstaff and a mythril shield. Till now, i'd never found the lv 8 spell 'blackstaff' useful.

As for pal\sorc\ek, well, because of the way rules are implimented, assuming a pal2\sorc8\ek mix (to guarantee the char->save feat, your sorc will not get any of those yummy lv 9 spells.

Check out Deekin's inventory. He sells a really great EK only suit of armor... it completely negates arcane spell failure, among other things.

Eldritch Knights are highly versatile, but are rarely good tanks. An extremely fun class in my opinion, and a decent alternative to the super fragile straight wizard. They take a while to come into their own, however, which is part of what makes them balanced.

I'm hoping that since I'm taking 5 levels of wizard then going straight into Eldrich Knight, I won't worry about anything. I'll be ahead of a sorc for caster levels until level 6, and I'll be a very effective wizard throughout the entire campaign (and after I max out Eldrich knight at 15, I'll take wizard to 9th lv spells then fighter4 for weapon spec - expecting to finish the campaign at 22 like before). Then again, I could go fighter 5 and stick to only having 7th level spells and have the extra attack from BAB. 8/9th level spells are all-important when you can melee well (I wish they would've put in the spellsword class).

Anyways, we'll see how it goes, as is, my wizard is beating stuff up in melee being 18str, 18int haha! Dual wielding a +1 club and a dagger!

Lol, then the end of the campaign was *that* much of a blur for me the first time. Looks like fighter 2 for me.

Does anyone have a good database of NWN feats? Arcane strike could do wonders with a gish (warrior-mage hybrid) build.
