crossbow?

    When using a crossbow, does the "to hit" use modifiers from dexterity or strength? Thanks

    Do you throw the bolt? :nuts: Crossbows are basically just machines; the only place where you even might need strength to operate them is winding them up. You don't need strength for a gun either.

    hey no need for sarcasm. I never said the rules of D&D corresponded to real life physics. If you want to think like that, wouldn't a throwing axe require the modifiers of both strength and dexterity?

    No, though in P&P some bow types allow STR damage bonus. NOT crossbows though, IIRC, they NEVER allow STR bonuses, as they are mostly mechanical.

    Ideally, yes, but the problem with that is that it gets overpowered, allowing double bonuses. So some use STR and some use DEX. But out of all missile weapons, crossbows are by far the least likely to make the switch.
