I have had two CTDs so far. Total play time maybe 8 hours or so. So I would not call that often, but it is two more than there should be. Both happened when I was trying to access the character sheet right after a conversation.

My game crashed a couple of times, and it was usually after cut scenes and when trying to enter areas, and during intense fights with a large number of enemies (that one might be hardware i.e. HDD related though).

I then used the Dragon Age: Origins Configuration Utility -> Repair -> Clear Download Cache. It helped.

had a couple of crashes, but nothing bad. It has mainly been in large battles. But I save so often, that it hardly matters

I had only one so far and I'm currently playing my third character. Quick save is your best friend.

Quick save is your best friend but unfortunately it uses only one save slot. It might become an issue if you only use it and the save gets corrupted. A quick save system which rotates a few save slots would be great. Unfortunately I know of only one game that uses a system like that.

Quite true, I usually make a new regular save once I travel to a new area just in case. Old habits die hard.

No crashes for me as of yet. I've heard the game has a memory leak or somesuch though.

I just got my first CTD and it sucked. I really loathe RPGs crashing as you invariable lose some playtime and I have lost track of the amount of games I have abandoned due to a particularly annoying CTD. Thankfully this one wasn't that bad but I will make sure to save often often often.

I've had crashes regularly with Dragon Age. Usually when I was trying to move to a new area on the map. A couple times when I was in a big fight. As I have taken up the habit to save often it wasn't that bad as far as playtime is concerned.

It's annoying though. I had to re-fight some more difficult fights because of it.

Not experienced any great amount of crashes, actually only one more. Instead I get "lag" and very long loading times at times. Most of the times the loading scenes are very short but then all of a sudden they can take several minutes. It is usually solved by restarting the game. Is this a common issue or is it only me?

To stick my beaten path these slowdowns reminds me of playing WoW on my old computer when there were a lot of things going on. :p

I've had a few times where it went really slow and I had to quit and restart. It usually kicks in if I've been on it for a few hours. I've also had some crashes as well but my computer does that anyway so I can't blame the game.

I just had my first CTD today. I just finished the fight with the bandits as soon as you enter the Frostback Mtns, and *POOF* the game was gone. :bad:

Restarted, painted the town red with bandit scalps, and continued with no problems. :D

    [minor spoiler]

[IMG] I thought I'd resurrect this thread, because it's a fitting place for me to ask about it:
I'm having difficulties with CTDs, they seem to occur during spellcasting, especially when I cast AoE spells.

I was trying to kill off as many of Ser Cauthrien's minions (for XP) as I could, before I let her defeat me, to initiate the Captured! quest. A difficult task in itself, with many reloads (due to killing too few minions, or accidentally killing Cauthrien), but 5 or more CTDs really frustrated matters.

During the landsmeet, I naturally went for the big battle, for yet more XP;). Just staying alive was difficult enough, but I also couldn't risk any AoE spells due to these crashes. I gave Morrigan and Wynne melee weapons, and looked closely at them, so I could prevent any spells from casting. It still crashed about 10 times though:(.

What are the best steps to take? Clear Download Cache, I read. Will lowering the graphic settings improve things? What about drivers, could it be related to those? I'd prefer not to risk updating drivers though..

In terms of preventing your casters from casting, your best bet is to turn off AI tactics and control them outright.

I've gotten a lot more crashes since the Awakening patch. It often happens during large battles, and the longer they last, the more likely it is to happen, which smells of a memory leak to me. You could try lowering your display settings for these for fights that are causing you difficulty, to see if that buys you extra time.

Patch 1.03 is buggy as hell. Don't use it if you don't play Awakening. They've announced a new patch but no release date as far as I know. With 1.03 you should definitely use the mod that fixes some Origins issues to make the game more enjoyable (check the mod list).

With 1.03 I've experienced a crash in the Chantry in Lothering whenever I try to leave it crashes my game and I have to load it again to get past that point. Annoying but not game breaking.

I haven't experienced Coin's issues but it's been a while since I've used a Mage in any party (although the issue may be related to the number of spells that are cast or something messing up that particular game -I don't really know).

I installed all relevant mods to improve the patch. It's possible that mod conflicts may be responsible, but somehow I doubt it. I think you're right Cara, that 1.03 is messing with my Origins game. And/or that the large battles cause memory leak.
