[IMG] i'm starting as a fighter and I was wondering, do I need wis and int for anything as a fighter or can I just lower them all the way down?

is there a way to scroll the screen around with the keyboard instead of having to drag the mouse all the way to the edge of the screen?

and one more... in guides i see people refer to places and objects with x,y coords.... how do I see the coords in the game?

L will show you the x/y coordinates. Someone else can answer the rest of your questions in more detail. ;)

    • Only decent wisdom (8 to 12), if possible, to not be ridiculous "as a person" — EXCEPT if you want HAVE the role-playing sensation to use a foolish character.
    :D
( I dont think that bonus versus "spells affecting mind" apply in BG1 as in AD&D ).

    • For intelligence, think only at what personnality you wish for your fighter (entirely to you). :)
[ Exception : if you have a vague idea to perhaps change classes later (for a mage, for your concern), clearly, 18 (17 at least) intelligence are then the usual score ].

    • Others : STRENGTH 18 with good percentage (if possible 76% or even 91%) ; CONSTITUTION 15, 16, or preferably 17 or 18 for bonus in life Hit Points ; DEXTERITY idem, for bonus from -1 to -4 to armor class ; and CHARISMA only if you prefer that it will be YOUR character who speak "in pole (first) position" to encounters (for reactions) and in shops (for better prices) : then CHARISMA is important : highest the number, the best !
... But if it's an other character of your party of (usually 6) persons, that you plan to let speak at the head of the group, YOUR charisma as fighter can be weak.

Powergaming-wise, you don't need your fighter to have any INT or WIS at all. (Well, the minimum possible is 3, but aside from that you don't.) There are no save bonuses, lore is low as a fighter anyway, and you don't need INT for your spellbook as a non-caster. But roleplaying-wise, you probably don't want him dumb as a brick. ;) Simple answer: Do you need it? Not at all. Might you want it? ...

Yes, you can scroll with the keyboard. And in the options screen you can also adjust the scroll speed of both keyboard and mouse.

You can lower wisdom and intelligence as much as you want, there's no penalty for this in BG.
Wis bonusses for mind affecting spells were never implemented in BG1. Lore can be ignored for fighters, rogues and mages are much better.
So for a human fighter 18/00 strength, 18 dex, 18 dex and 18 cha, 3 int and 3 wis can be considered optimal.
But you don't have to go for 18/00 str, 18/51-99 is also fine. A single strength spell can lift this value to 18/00 for hours.
More important is that you master bows, since they are the best weapons. The best melee weapons you'll find are longswords.

No Silvershield, as kmonster stated right above you, Wisdom has no effect on your saves.

I don't have a recollection of Wisdom affecting saves in BGII either.

There must be something in BGII because Minsc has a 6 in Wisdom and he seems to be the one that I have the most trouble with failing certain saves most consistantly. which is very annoying. But he suffered no more or less than anybody else in BG1

No, there's nothing in BG2 either. Warriors have poor spell saves, but everyone except Minsc has something helping them. Korgan and Mazzy have racial bonuses, Keldorn has paladin bonuses (and Inquisitor immunities), Anomen's a cleric first and foremost...hmm, Valygar doesn't have anything, but then you hear about him getting killed a lot too. :heh:

Plus I've found that Minsc has some sort of luck factor. Not anything actually mechanically, but some people just have horrid luck with him and some people have terrific luck with him.

I must have horrid luck with him then because I can play a fighter and if I have Minsc in the party minsc is just pitiful even compared to my own human fighter. He tends to be a horribly liability in my parties even when his rather limited personality doesn't grate on my nerves.

The few times that I've used Valygar though I've had no problems at all.

But we are kind of getting far off topic for the board.

I am not sure but I thought INT. & WIS. affected dialouge options. And if you plan on exporting to BG2 there are some monsters that you need a good INT. to fight them. But you can make up for a poor INT. & WIS. with certain potions when you need these scores to be higher.

There are very few int- or wis-based dialogue options in BG2, maybe about 2-3. And for those you need high stats, 12 won't help you more than 3.
Other party members can talk for getting this options, your party priest or party mage will have high wis or int stats.
But the extra dialogue options you get are not really usefull anyway.

Ya know, It does'nt matter how I try to armor or protect him he will find a way to die.
