When I try to play Baldur's Gate the whole game starts up but the screen is black. I only see the screen briefly when I press ALT-TAB to change windows but when I return to the Baldur's Gate Window it's black again. The program itself is working properly apart from the video problem. Can anybody help me with this? I just tested it windowed and realised the problem is only when it's in full screen

Go to your screen settings under windows, and see if the option to put your desktop in 640x480 is present. If not, it means your video card can't display such low resolutions. In that case, there is not much you can do, because I don't suggest downgrading your vidcard for a game, even if it's BG. ;)

Now I've gotten that working it's r......u......n.....n.....i.......n......g Like a slug. Eating up all of my CPU (1.83GHz) Resources. It's a problem with the game though because more Demanding Games Like BG2, Neverwinter Nights & Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic work fine

Well, there are some issues with the new(er) directx versions. Like on my computer, it just has buggy graphics. You can solve this by going in your screen settings (desktop settings), click on the button advanced, and go to the tab performance. There, slide the slider back till it says directx acceleration disabled. This solves my graphical glitches, so it might help you too. Just remember to slide the slider back up if you want to play something else.
