    Hello,
I'm in th midst of making my first nasty backstabber and have just left Irenicus' dungeon and was thinking of heading for the cloak of non-detection and it struck me: with the cloak, do my points spent in move silently become worthless? My understanding of the skill is that hide in shadows gets you hidden and move silently is often what keeps enemy spell casters from casting true sight when you are moving in for the kill. With the cloak though you wouldn't care so much what they cast because it won't help any way freeing up precious points for my assasin to spend elsewhere. I'd have to keep some points here anyway for pride (who wants to be the invisible bumbling assasin, stumping his toe in the dark and cursing but somehow still an excellent backstabber)but I wouldn't have the 80 or so I stuck in there from the beginning. I did a search and couldn't find anything. TIA -- Laches

interesting question, though you might not be able to be found by inviseble dispellings, you can be hit ny area of effect spells still. This might be a rare situation, but still.

There might be some information in the guide Ragusa made for thieves: http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/thieves.php
but else you should investigate it, the cloak is after all, obtainable pretty early in the game. And it is a very interesting theory you have

The Cloak of Non-detection doesn't affect your hide in shadows/move silently scores at all, if you suck at stealth, the cloak will not help you or keep you hidden. The function of the cloak is purely to keep mage/cleric spells from revealing you (even true site) - it is worth mentioning though, that the cloak keeps thieves hidden when they're using their skills, but a true site spell will still dispell invisibility on someone who is using the cloak.

In the waukeens promenade upstairs in an inn, not sure which one. There will a band of adventurers. One of the members have it on him.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong

There's two inns, Mithrest on the left and Den of the Seven Vales on the right. The party is in the top floor of the Den of the Seven Vales, formally known as the Den of the Seven Veils (bellydancers!) talk to the owner on that one ;)

Careful, the adventurers are pretty high level. Get rid of the mage early, and then the cleric, as they cast a variety of annoying spells. Backstab, and, if you still have trouble, you can always use the Fake Talk strategy on them.

[IMG] Don't call that "strategy", it's a game engine exploit. Might as well use instant kill cheat. It makes no difference. Both are just as legit.

When you face the group of adventurers, the worst thing they'll do is cast chaos into your group. I was continually frustrated by this because my active participation in the fight was over seconds into the fight time after time, AND I was targeting their mage to disrupt his spells...

well it turned out that it's his damn familiar that casts the chaos spell, so watch for that!

The thief (or assassin) of that party always gets to escape in my game... hmph, I took them on too early anyway...
