[IMG] AFAIK I've killed every single monster in the caves and in the next area, including Harshom and all his minions and those jellies. I've also gone around all of that area in order to kill the hidden umber hulks, but everytime i tak to barud, all the options say i haven't yet. am i missing something?

Hmm, that happens to me all the time. I don't know what the solution is.

dagnammit. i'm getting a mite impatient, so as im playing a fairly good party, i might as well go straight to the slaughter.
incidentally, im not too sure whether i was able to do this quest either a couple of years ago.. hrm.

I might be able to help if you can remind me what chapter this is and where you are. I'm not good with names :(

its the end of chapter 3, the river caves area where you first encounter hook horrors and umber hulks that pop out of walls. its the part right before you ascend to the black raven monk monastery (start of chapter 4). Barud Barzam(sp?) is the leader of a duergar company.

You must talk to Barud before you finish off all the monsters in the caves. Only the Hook Horrors, Jellies and the Shambling Mound count as monsters for this quest.

If you killed all of them BEFORE you talked to Barud then you cant complete the quest. It might be a glitch but thats how it works.

I think the variable tracking this quest is added only after you talk to Barud. So if you have already cleared the monsters then its value remains at 0.

If you download the latest patch for IWD2, it fixes this bug.

I killed everything down there: the Hook Horrors, Fire Beetles, Ice Trolls, Jellies, and that damnable Shambling Mound before talking to Barud Barzam.

You have to enter EVERY room and kill everything (the Fire Beetle room is the trickiest, the Jellies being the second trickiest). Have you downloaded the latest patch yet? That might just help.

About 1/4 of the time I attempt this quest, I encounter this bug. So I don't think the patch is the answer because I am using the same version when it works and when it doesn't. Plus I have done it enough times to know where to find all the monsters. Plus I have tried it when speaking to Barud for the first time before and after killing all the monsters. The only thing I can think of (that I have not tested yet) is that sometimes I go back up to the Dragon's cave to rest. I know that you're not really supposed to do this (you're supposed to rest with the dwarves). Could this somehow be resetting the variable. I know it's a long shot but it's the only thing I can think of after several months of frustration on this.

Eh ... I forgot those trolls and beetles.
I hate the jellies simply coz they never seem interested in dying, only budding into newer forms

I think you should install both the v2.01 patch and the bugfixes component of the ease-of-use mod. I always do and have never encountered this bug.

Of course I read about the bug before I got to the place so I always knew to keep atleast one door unopened. Typically I save the beetles for the end. They are just so much fun to kill :shake:

I don't necessarily think it's resting up in the River Caves that's the problem. I've done it every single time I went through this part of the game and never encountered this problem.

This is definitely a bug I've never seen before. I don't know what it could be. If you kill everything before talking to Barud Barzam a dialogue option opens up similar to saying you killed them all but it says that you ALREADY killed them.

    Quite strange indeed.
