Seems self control is a bit low now that I discovered that control + R and can teleport with 'J' too. I like the teleport cuz it's annoying walking all over, but now that I discovered the full heal on demand w/o casting, it's kinda totally ruined the fun of the game cuz I'm lame and can't seem to stop :p Anybody else have this trouble?

Nope. :p You need professional help. (Where Ex when you need him? :shake: )

Seriously, if it's ruining the fun to use it, then don't use it, and the fun will come back. The first step is always the hardest, but when the fun starts returning it'll get easier. One day at a time...

I went hog-wild with it when I first discovered it, too, TT. Like you, I quickly discovered it takes a lot of the fun out of the game, but I couldn't seem to stop. Same thing happened with Ctrl-T (bye bye, bad guy spell protections!) Gradually, though, I just sort of naturally eased off. Now, I only use it for super-cheesy fights like Improved Planar Sphere. Or, if someone dies during a battle, I'll Ctrl-R them back afterwards; saves some wear-and-tear on my RoR.

I don't really consider Ctrl-J cheating, though; I still use it all the time. After playing the game for the umpteenth time, I can only stomach the trek from the district entrance to the Radiant Heart building for so long.

If the temptation is too much to resist, you could always just disable the cheats in the baldur.ini file...you know, go cold turkey.

Ctrl-R also removes all enchantments on a character, and if casting a spell, cancels it, so it was sometimes worth casting it on a mage to get the exp for actually killing him than Ctrl-Y. Yes, I got addicted to it too.

I agree. Traipsing back and forth over the same territory is boring.

You know, I even banned myself to use innocent CTRL+J, as I feel like dirty cheater when I do. Interesting, I have no qualms about taking advantage of gam engine. Ha!

Just disable the cheats, man. I have them just in case.

I only ever used CTRL+Y and CTRL+R with Sola's modded fights.

What are you guys talking about? What do all those CTRL buttons do? I have never heard of these features.

Cheating. CTRL+R restores the target to full HP, dispels all magic. CTRL+Y kills all but few unkillable NPCs. (it still does tons of damage) CTRL+J is quick teleporting. Try them!

    @ Harbourboy:

You have to enable the cheat codes in your baldur.ini file by adding a line. You can then hit control + a number of different letters for various (and morally questionable) affects. I don't remember exactly what you need to add, but the procedure is detailed in Dan Simpson's walkthrough, or you could just google "Baldur Cheat Codes" and find lots of sites telling you how to do it and what you'll get.

Be warned, though...it's a slippery slope to the Abyss!

Ahh, the cheating...I started and I could NOT stop. You're right, it just kills the game's objectives. The fighting is one of the main game factors, take it out and you only have the boring samey stuff left over. But I really cannot stop! I am addicted to Ctrl+R. :(

Ctrl-J is my best friend. Aside from that, I don't use cheats all that much.

Never used those cheats. Okay, perhaps not exactly "never", but only teleportation to skip the unnecessary and insta-kill for Melissan (who is just a cheating biatch in any case). Otherwise clean as a sparrow :p

I'm fairly proud of myself-I discovered the cheats and so far have only imported a few improved healing potions for the very last fight of ToB when I realized that I didn't have any. But I have to admit, it's temptation x100.

I love using some cheats, CTRL J is the best. I never use CTRL Y though. It makes the games more enjoyable to be honest, but to each his own.

Someone can't resist using cheat? Hahaha. It's much worse when you discover something which is not an "official" cheat, like using that big axe in ToB (can't remember the name, forged from an axe found in Watcher's Keep) which gives bonus HP when equipped; since BG2 allows pause during battle, you just equip-unequip the item as many times as needed to regain all your HP (it always gives a certain percent of your HP as bonus, and when you unequip it, your momental HP won't be decreased, only the total one. From this point, its effect is obvious.) Now this was something that needs some will not to be used.
Even as a beginner, I've never found any joy in using any such official cheat you guys mention. Using -- or rather just experimenting with --"over-modded" godlike characters is another matter, that is more "acceptable".
Just a possible help for you to resist: when you are tempted to use it, don't forget that using cheat means you're not a good player. In fact, a very poor one. If you are a good one, you don't use cheat. If you tell this to yourself, it might help.
    Have fun!

Heard of them but I've never used them. Cheating of (usually) any sort can lead to the ruining of the fun for any game, yes even BG. They don't seem that important anyway :p
