Cheat/mod to make Paladins + Monks accept monetary rewards?

    Hi,

I've just started my second run through IWD2 - this time with only a two-member party: A Monk (Deep Gnome), and a Sorceror (Aasimar).
(My first run through, with a regular six-member party, was already some time ago.)

Because several people on this forum and elsewhere strongly suggest adding two Paladin levels at the beginning for any Sorceror char, I did - however what I didn't consider is that now I have no-one in my party who will accept monetary rewards.
Which makes the Targos Palisade quests somewhat less, well, rewarding... ;)

Is there any way to fix that?
    A Cheat? Mod? Patch?

    Thanks in advance...

Stick a bard into your party. Hard to beat the dragon later on, without the bardsong that gives immunity to fear. Charisma based class too, so its a win win situation.

No idea if there are any cheat mods, though.

Cheat is the only way. Failing that, you can add in a bard as your party diplomat. Lawful Neutral Bard, if you can, to change to 1 level of dreadmaster of Banite.

ONE level paladin. The second level is wasteful, and adds very little benefit.

High level Paladin give you Aura of Courage to counter Fear.

Anyway, Bard is your best bet. As a backup buffer, she will free your caster from casting buffers and just concentrate on offensive spells. Luck, Cat's Grace, Hope, Improved Invisibility, Haste...

If you're concerned about money, there's a bug you can exploit so that you'll never have to worry about money anymore. Not strictly cheating, though others here may disagree with me there.

You need a gem and a potion of some sort to do this. Pause the game and go into your inventory. Right-click the potion and select to drink it. Then put the gem into the slot the potion was in. You'll 'use' the gem instead of the potion, and if you look in your inventory the number of gems has disappeared. Now do it again. Since negative numbers are not possible, you'll get an integer underflow and the number will wrap around to 65535. Depending on the type of gem, this'll net you somewhere between a couple of hundred thousand to a couple of million gp.

If this is too much for you, you can just sell as many gems as you need to match the monetary reward you would have otherwise gotten and drop the rest on the floor somewhere. You can then use it just as an alternative to having another character join your party.

    Thanks for the tips everyone.

Adding a bard was not the solution for me, because a) I don't really like bards, and b) I had already made up my mind about playing a two-member party... :D

What I ended up doing, is kind of similar to what henkie suggested, only not as extreme:
I installed the "Infinite Stacking" and "Bottomless Containers" mods. This way, I can collect pretty much all loot I find and sell it, which so far has given me a lot more money than I need...
(It also allows me to spend less time doing inventory managment, and more time enjoying the actual game...)

Too late... However, even with two Paladin levels at the beginning, my sorceror seems powerful enough as a spellcaster.
At the beginning the Monk would do most of the kills, but now (middle of Chapter 2) the sorcerer has already slightly surpassed him in that regard...

I've given my sorceror the Cat's Grace, Armor, and Stoneskin spells, and apply them on both chars at the beginning of each day...

I found that it still leaves enough spell slots for my favourite offensive spells (although of course one would always like to have more).

On a side note, it is becoming clear that the game was not balanced for this kind of party...
The Monk (layered with the afforementioned buffs), easily trashes an Ice Temple Golem 1-on-1 in only a few moves, while taking no or very little damage himself. Kind of cheesy...
On the other hand, some fights (especially ones involving many fast-moving and high-attack-bonus melee fighters who can surround my sorceror), seem to be *more* difficult than they were with a six-member party.

Enemy's placement also change in number accordingly with your numbers and levels. For example, instead of 3 Wolves you might 4 wolves and 1 winter wolf. So playing in smaller squad is not necessarily harder than playing a group of six.

I shudder to think of levels that throw ambushes at you (scripted appearance, not avoidable fixed placement). This should be fun to watch, unless you summon your full complement of helpers (6?) as shield.

No, enemy numbers and placement ONLY depends on your party's average level, NOT on the amount of people in your party. I've playtested this extensively (referring to JUPP, available here at Sorcerer's). Hence, you're bound to meet MORE enemies as a smaller party, not less, due to your slightly higher level.

Maybe I'm thinking of BG2 or IWD1, but if it is fighters like that giving you trouble, you might want to seriously consider having your sorcerer learn Slow. That should solve the problem nicely. IIRC it cuts their speed in half and reduces them to one attack per round.
