I don't know if any of you ever got the Cloak of Mirroring (no bonuses to anything, except: Permanent Minor Spell Turning (All damage-spells are redirected back at the caster)) in BGII: SoA.

Well in BGII: ToB the cloak have exactly the same description, but when I put it on the effect it has, are no longer Minor Spell Turning, but Minor Spell Deflection, that absorbs spells instead of redirecting.

This made all fights against beholder-kin VERY hard...

Is it just me, or do you guys (and lads) out there have the same problem?

this is not a bug, the cloak was changed in tob to make it less "overpowered". ya, now you have to use your sword to kill, the way it should always be.

Ok, so it was on purpose they changed it? I can live with that. But maybe they should remove the Imprisonment ability that the Elder Orb have, it makes them far too powerfull since it ain't a spell, but something they just do.

Elder Orbs are supposed to be that powerfull. We're not talking your regular Beholder here, it's an elder orb, they're supposed to be mean bastards.
As much as I hate Imprisonment, but if you'd take that ability from the Elders away, they'd have no way of harming you when you use the cloack of mirroring. Wouldn't that kindof make you overpowered? :heh:

Besides, the Imprisonment is easy to prevent with Spell Immunity.

Do you by any chance have Spell Immunity as a scroll or spell when you meet the first Elder Orb (in the "Beholder-city" in the Underdark)??? No you don't...

Yes you do. Well, if you've bought one that is. I believe the Duergar sell some, or else some Drow merchant on the first platform. Perhaps the Svirfneblin (whoohoo SP! :) ) settlement has one to offer.

Besides, Elder Orbs don't use Imprisonment that often. Just went through the Beholder Lair in the Underdark, and I didn't get Imprisoned once. And that is solo, without Spell Immunity, or the cloack of mirroring. (Sorry, just got to show it off)

First, the Imprisonment ability of the Elder Orbs is just like the spell: They have to touch you to Imprison you. So, when you see an Elder Orb coming toward you, you know you'd better run until your other people kill it.

I've done that a couple of times: Once with the Elder Orb in hell and once with that wizard that came out of that soul trap thing in the Underdark.

[IMG] Get Extremist's tweak for the Cloak of Mirroring from SP. It removes the annoying globe effect, but leaves the item as it is made by ToB. You get the nice shiny circle below your feet back. :D

Well, I've tried to get Imprissonned about 2 or 3 times, AT A DISTANCE. I think it might be because the Elder Orb have the spell Spectral Hand, that (prior to AD&D Players Handbokk 2nd edt.) allows the caster to use any spell that requires a touch to be done so at a distance. So in fact the Elder orb could cast the hand first, and then use it to Imprisson the PC or an NPC... (After all the BG series are made with the rules of AD&D 2nd edt. Guides and Handbooks)...
