I was browsing the Baldur's Gate Encyclopedia--accessible through Taluntain's post at the beginning of this board--and found a reference to Chainmail +3, which you can get off someone named Loup Garou, found in Mendas' House, after you kill him. So, two questions:

Can mages cast spells wearing this chainmail +3, as they can with Drizzt's mail? (Assuming they can wear it.)

Loup Garou, I found, is a Greater Werewolf, and extremely hard to kill, but where is Mendas' House?

Mages can't cast spells in Chainmail +3 or Drizzt's armor. Drizzt's armor allows thieving abilities, but not arcane spellcasting.

Mendas's house is near the dock in Ulgoth's Beard. I'd wait on killing him, though. IIRC, he's the only way to get to the Werewolf Island.

Thanks, Felinoid. I seem to remember my bard casting spells while wearing Drizzt's armor, but perhaps I'm wrong. I'll see if I have a saved game from that adventure and report back.

Edit: Quite right, Fel. My bard could not cast spells while wearing Drizzt's chainmail,
which is +4, by the way. Must've been some fantasy memory.

Yeah, it's a common misconception based on the elven chainmails in BG2.

The Elven Chainmails thing comes from the 2e rules origionally. They were also a chainmail thieves could wear without totally tanking their thieving skills.

But then they also make the distinction between Magical Chainmail and Magical Elven Chainmail as well.

Actually (in one of the versions, forgot which I played then) there where "some" spells you could cast while wearing Drizzt's Chainmail. I am certain Identify was one of those, but the number was very limited, think it was mainly spells with the white color (thus not very usefull in combat).

    Just checked, no spells work.
