Gollum , Tal hit it on the head. You won't have to pay, but here's some more detail about the game and what it can do/be. NWN, as you know, will be both an online game and a single player game. There will be many ways to play it. You can always play the adventure NWN ships with, either by yourself offline in single player mode, or with some other people on some sort of server. Also, since a big feature of NWN is end-user content, lots of people who have the game hopefully will be making content for you to play. Now some of this will be available for download, and you can again either play it at home by yourself or with friends online somewhere. NWN no doubt also promises user created persistant worlds. Basically, in a sense, this would be like a UO world, except there is no offical world or official server (and I can only hope it will be worlds better). All of this will be brought to you by the loyal fans of the game.

Now as for paying to play it online. Likely you won't have to do it. There will likely be lots of places to downloard free content (actually I'm really hoping SP will have a place to dowload the better SP user created content), and there will surely be some free play persistant worlds out there for you to play in. However, some worlds will I'm sure be pay for play as well. Some of these might be worth it, so you might want to pay for the service. You never know. But, no, you certainly won't have to shell out money every month to play the game online. There will be plenty of free opertunities, especially at first, to play for free.
