A while ago i tried to install the BG1 NPC Portrait Pack, but accidentally cancelled the download prematurely. Now, for some reason, the incomplete file is stuck on my desktop, and if I try to delete it, I get a message saying that it's "in use". What the Charles Bronson? How do I get rid of this thing?

    Thanks in advance.

Try booting up in safe mode.

If you cannot delete it in safe mode, use Unlocker.

I trick I recently learned is to rename the file - this should release the file from the process it belongs to. Then you can delete away!

Of course, this may not work in all instances.

Actually, the easiest way I've found is to use Windows Task MAnager.

To get WTM, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE.

Once Windows task manager comes up, click on the Processes tab, and select the process named "explorer.exe" and then click End Process. Ignore the warning, and don't freak out with the taskbar goes away. Now, just click on the Applications tab; click on New Task; and type "explorer" in the box; and then select OK. Boom, Windows Explorer has been restarted and you should be able to move/delete the file now.

That quick, easy, and FREE way works 99% of the time for me. :thumb: :rolling:
