Canadian dollar stronger than US dollar

    It's depressing... I have some long-term savings in USD and I'm still beating myself over the head for not pulling it all out and exchanging it for Euros last May when the USD was at a 5-year high. Well, high low anyway...

    I've given up hope of it going much over €0.80 in the next few years so as soon as the next spike happens, I'm getting rid of all the USD savings.

    It felt weird when I was at work and realized that Australian, New Zealand, and Canadian dollars are now worth more than the US ones. Although I think that was actually intentional - I think there is pressure to keep the US dollar low so exports are cheaper and thus more competitive. China has been doing that for years now :) .

    Heh, back in high school there was a talk that the principle preferred hiring Canadian teachers for the "expat" positions, because they were cheaper to pay. I wonder if that is still valid today.

    I tried to capitalise on the low US dollar and ordered some nicely designed t-shirts in the US. The funny thing is that I had to pay import taxes, which, even with shipping, still didn't make the price uncompetitive. The sad thing was that the tax receipt clearly stated that the t-shirts were in fact not sent from the US but from India.
