My party of 6 has a truncated triangle formation with 2 fighter at top. When I decided to change one of the fighter's attributes, I thought that the newly created fighter would take the same to position; but no, now the cleric occupy that spot. This is not very good. Can I change it somehow?

You can rearrange your party member order by clicking on a party member's portrait and dragging it up or down on the right side of the game's interface. The member you drag to the topmost position will be the party's leader.

If your party leader has high charisma, it will give some bonuses, you will be able to open up some dialogue options, and more importantly, buying things will be much more cheaper.

A clever tactic is having a very high charisma caster, and then casting a quick Friends spell with him. (mage lvl 1, enchantment) this will add a huge bonus of +6 CHA, and when the party leader has 20+ CHA, you will see that the prices of all items in all shops will be lowered considerably!

"Friends" grants only +5 cha. 15 cha is perfect for dialogue options and 20 for shop prices.

^But it granted +6 CHA in BG2, eh? Weird.

Anyways, bards and enchanters are good candidates for party leaders when buying stuff as they have 15+ CHA already and can cast friends spell. Paladins are the natural party leaders though with their minimum 17 CHA scores!

If it is just teh walking formation, then do as Tal said and just "drag" the new fighters portrait to the top place.

If it is becose they misposition everytime you enter a new map, like entering the skellie caves in valley of shadows with mage in front and fighters behind, then that is becose at map transition it follows the order of what "position" the character stand in the "character arbitration" (the order the characters are made). This can be fixed with exporting the said characters in trouble, and remove and reaad in the correct spot (warriors on the two first spots etc).
