Basically, you just start a multiplayer game and then you can create all six characters, or accept NPCs along the way. I *think* that this is in the manual, but I'm not sure.

I only played with this a bit in BG1 (so some of the details may have changed in BG2) but basicialy, select Multiplayer- Host a Game and start a new game. Roll 2 to 6 characters and then at the party screen click on the button by each character until 'Done' is available to click. Once the game starts you can save it and exit BG2. Next copy the save game from the MSAVE folder to the SAVE folder, and you can start a single player game with all your created characters.

If I was going to do this, I'd likely create two or three characters and leave the other slots open to add and remove NPCs as you accept their quests.

Also, if this method is too complicated you can always just buy IWD:HOW. ;)

You can play BG, BG2, and IWD/HoW in multiplayer mode without transfering your save game to single-player mode...just be sure that you check the "serial port" option and not TCP/IP, IPX, etc when you configure your multiplayer connection. The only aggravation is having to check off your party members each time you load your game.

I created 3 characters for BG2...my old saved main character that survived BG and two additional. I left 3 slots open for NPC's...Minsc and two others.
