OK, now I'm getting annoyed. The store keepers in Kuldahar have some really nice equipment, provided you have in excess of 10,000 gp to spend.

I'm in chapter 1 now, so I don't have nearly enough to buy this, but there are some creatures that require magical weapons to hit. So far, I have seen TWO somewhat affordable magical weapons. A short sword +1 and a bastard sword +1.

First question: Are there other +1 weapons that can be bought/found so I can hit creatures that require magical weapons to be hit?

Second question: Are most of the 10,000 gp + items always going to be out of reach? I mean, am I ever going to get the kind of money where I can buy several of these items?

#1: I don't know why it is you're having so much trouble finding any magical weapons. By the time I got to where you were (Kresselak's tomb, I'm guessing) I had at least 2 +1 Longswords and the Halberd of Sparks (+2 with a chance to add electrical damage).

You are aware that there are several random-generating chests scattered throughout the game, aren't you? And that if you don't like what you get in a certain area (like the first few tombs), you can reload and get something totally different? That may help.

The problem may just be that you're not very lucky this time around. You're probably getting a strength potion when you could be getting something cool. Sounds like it. For help with this, I'd check out the great IWD walkthrough available here on SP. You can scan through carefully to avoid spoilers and just focus on some strategies with the random items tables. Worth a look.

#2: I never bought a single one of the "premium" items in Conlan's shop. By the time I reached a point in the game where I had enough gold to actually buy one of them, I was finding weapons that were equal or better in chests and on enemies anyway. When you get down to it, the items he sells kinda suck anyway. Most are simple +X weapons with fancy names, or weak abilities. Like a mace with added damage against spiders. OOH! They're so tough...and plentiful! I fought...like...4 of them in the whole game!

    /end smartass

Ahem. Bottom line - the best stuff in Conlan's shop are the Trusted Defender, Plate Mail +1, Giant Killer sling and a few others. The rest are just window dressing. I have a theory that the designers deliberately made them impossibly overpriced to feed the players greed for gold and force them to check every single tomb, nook and cranny. Otherwise, why charge 45k for a +3 long sword (or whatever)?

    Um... No.

Even if you've already gone through the tombs and saved it? For example, I can go BACK through the tombs if I reload and everything will be automatically reset, so that it essentially an endless list of possibilities?

Sort of. These chests set themselves randomly when you enter an area. Take, for example, the tomb where I got the Halberd of Sparks (it's the 2nd or 3rd tomb in the vale of shadows - the one where you walk up some stairs to a sarcophagus, just south of which there's what looks like a pool that formed when a wall broke. Forgive me for my lame descriptions...it's been a while). In order for the trick to work, you have to save before you ENTER. Go inside, do your thing, and check the sarcophagus. You should get a premium item. Save a totally seperate save, then reload your first save. Try it again - you should get something else.

As for endless possibities - sort of. Every random item generator selects between a predetermined list of 2-5 items set for that chest.

There are random item chests like this placed all throughout the game - even on certain enemies. It's one of my favorite features of IWD, and really increases the replay value.

    An example, from the walkthrough:
In this instance, since the best item is Glimglam's Cloak, I saved before entering, and re-fought that battle till I got what I wanted. This is a powergamerish "I already beat the game so now I'm just having fun" tactic, but it should serve to show you how the items tables work.

Which walkthrough is this from - there's like 5 of them on the SP site. As an aside, I DID get Glimglam's Cloak, but it was just dumb luck.
