We know Firkraag can. As can Adalon. And Draconis and Abazigal too. Is this an ability of all dragons? And how does Adalon have eggs? Did she transform to a human and go for a night out on the town? I can't imagine many dragons come to see her in the Underdark.

I'm just thinking that most dragons would want to be able to mix with society to some extent. Talk about a boring existence. Sitting on a pile of gold for months or even years on end, and every once in a while an adventurer happens by for you to kill.

My recollection of it was that the more intelligent dragons had the possibility of doing it. Gold and Silver and Red all had the chance. I'm not sure about Copper or below in the good dragons and I'm not sure about most of the other evil ones.

I will see if I still have my 2e monster manual somewhere buried away from 30 years ago and let you know.

[IMG] In 3e and early 2e many different dragons had the ability innately to transform into humans, some learnt through their natural arcane abilities instead.

Adalons' eggs are a gift from an elven deity in return for her guardianship over the entrance to the Underdark. The Drow killed her mate and in return for her service his spirit was used to grant her children when the end of her duty was neigh.

Also Dragons live for centuries, the longer lived a creature is the less impatient and human lives take less meaning when they pass in mere moments. Draconic society used to be much more elaborate until humans came along too, many would be wary of interacting even in disguise.

Most(if not all, not sure about Brass and Bronze) of the Metallic Dragons could, only Reds in the Chromatic group could shapechange to Humies... Copper's are very inquisitive and Silver's have an affinity for humanoids, so both would do so regularly.

Of course if you count spells any dragon of sufficient age could make themselves look humanoid by using spells. Not sure if you want to count that though.

As far as potential goes, all of them probably can - all dragons are inherently magical. In 4E chromatics are not strictly evil, metallic dragons are not strictly good, and dragon personality in general is much more diverse (the giant-wyrm-sitting-on-a-pile-of-treasure is relegated to being a stereotype).

There are other types of dragons beside the chromatics/metallics, like gem dragons and lung dragons (eastern dragons). These dragons also behave very differently from your standard western dragon.
