Don't know how many of you are playing this new game (it rocks :D ), but within 24 hours of it's release it was hacked by a bunch of gonadless creeps who are so insecure that they have to insure that they can win by cheating. Whatever you do, make sure that the software you run is legit, your CD key is legit, and avoid these idiots like the plague. Years of development goes into a game like this for the enjoyment of us fellow gamers, and a few jerks who can do nothing but exercise their questionable computer skills tries to ruin it for the development companies. This, coming on the heels of what happened to Valve with HL2, only spells trouble for those of us who enjoy new, innovative quality games on the PC. What point is there for a developer to spend millions of dollars on a game, if their rights are violated by 13-year olds in Spokane!

I am steamed over this. We as gamers need to start a grass roots movement to snub hackers and support the legitimate developers...before there are none left. Let me hear from all of you over this!

What is it that they did? It sounds like you're not just talking about cracking the copy-protection here, but something else, something... Sinistar.

    I HUNGER!

Well, if you're talking about what I think you are then I agree, Diablo II was fun for a little while, but I could never stand to play it in multiplayer because of the community there- and the extent of abuse by players has led Blizzard to extreme measures.

Remember the old legit guilds for Diablo 1?

*shakes head* This would never have happened for Team Fortress Quake. That was something pure, un-molested, un-tainted. Oh wait, it was made by Hackers ;)

    Still, hackers of principle :)

Am I on the right track here?

Yeah, this is the kind of hack that is for cheaters only, it allows you to paint the oppositon to show up as a neon color on your screen and then use an aim-bot to get a head shot. Funny, but it looks like they may have used some of the new ATI pixel shading technology, used in the very development of the game. Truly nothing that could lead to anything good. What's particularly upsetting is that this was supposed to be a "hack proof" game. After this and the source code for HL2 being leaked, I'm begining to lose faith. Considering pulling my old Nintendo out of the closet and enjoy some classic single player games.

I have a friend who runs a server, and he is always having to upgrade his packet to try to catch the cheaters. We have these really excellent MP shooter games, but the servers are all packed with kids who have obscenely high scores and rankings because they are able to stay one step ahead of the system. Used to play a lot of Age of Empires / Age of Kings, until I found that I was regularly losing to people who where using a "map" hack. I am a casual gamer, barely can keep up with avid gamers if all is fair...when they cheat, I don't have a chance and the game is no fun.

I think that it comes down to us as gamers. These hackers do what they do so they can get recognized and feel like they are special. I think that it's time for a SP pledge...or something to that effect...to fight hackers wherever they may be.

*Father Hacken steps away from the pulpit*

EDIT: I referred to the cheaters as "kids". I apologize to all you kids...it's just me being a sputtery old-fella. Tal, are you reading this...I know that you are very careful to support the right of all Bioware property, what can we do as a 6000 strong site to help.

Aye, these sort of people are what is known of as bad sports. You want to hack the code to make a mod which causes the protagonist's breasts to double in size... fine, even if you want to blaze through the single-player, ok with me -but I don't see much point in playing a human opponent and cheating, sort of shooting yourself in the foot too, because you're not exactly going to improve your skills. Shame. Shame. Shame.

While everyone else seems to be in the land of Nod, I'll second that veto, and take that pledge: Tal, is there anything we can do?

    I hear ya fellas.
I´m playing Counter-Strike alot and you can tell easily, most of the times, when someone is cheating. Especially in the case where it´s a "noob" that just started playing. And with wallhack, aimbot and so on you dont have much of a chance. And so you get frustrated and pissed off. And then, atleast in my case, your keyboard takes a few hits and break... Sure, there are anti-cheat technology, but as said. The cheaters seems to be one step ahead.

I dont understand that people dont get it that it outright rude to cheat when you´re playing against another person who might* (*insert SHOULD here) have paid good money for the game, and then get´s it ruined because someone dont get enough attention IRL. I get really angry at these people. To bad the world is to big to go around and kick some butt...

There are 2 reasons why I have never played multi-player in any game:
    1. I’m a casual gamer, and not a very good one at that, so I doubt I’d stand a chance in a legitimate MP setting, since I can’t afford to invest the time needed to become reasonably competitive.
    2. Even when I think I might give MP a try, the horror stories about cheaters basically scare me off for good.

I don’t understand the mentality of these people either, but it seems somewhat akin to schoolyard bullying. I don’t see it changing anytime soon, so I guess I’ll just stick with single-player.

    I'll be real honest, here.

I seriously doubt it took 24 hours to crack CoD. More often than not, there's about 3 or 4 hours of assembling, and about 2 hours of play testing. Then, 40 minutes to an hour of just uploading it to a couple of repositories and chat channels. Usually in exchange for porn, but that's besides the point.

If you were sleeping, then it might have seemed like 24 hours. I always have really vivid and good dreams on The Patch.

It's true the hardcore, bottom line gamers are the primary and secondary schoolers. I dunno what to say on this one, except that sooner than you expect, the graphics portion of games will become the easy part. Plug and play, algorithmic. Like Darth Vader called, the circle will be complete. It'll be the plot and atmosphere that take the time to develop and master.

To be real honest, I'm not sure I look forward to this. I mean, I thought Final Fantasy III and VII were convoluted. Like the walls of an intestine or vagina. I've no idea what kind of twisted and peristalic games will be developed at that point. I fear a remake of UFO: Defense.

    God, save the Queen.

OK...does anyone else have a hard time understanding ejsmith (I feel like I am now moderating a support group). One coment to make...probably the hackers were able to break the code because of a demo that had been released about a month before...thats business and expected to sell a new game...doesn't make hacking right.

Yep, ejsmith lost me too. Unles he started out talking about hacking, and then went into the area of how games are going to be developed in the future. But I'm not sure.

I'm still sticking with single-player, though.

I'm getting the game tomorrow :)

I really hope I'll be able to find some good multiplayer servers with people that actually play as teams.

I'm gonna finish SP in veteran first though :p
