I've seen pictures on TV about the wildfires in the US. The way it seemed from the news, things are quite bad - it looks like a disaster, so many people having to leave their homes and so much damage being done... Just how bad are things, and does it look like things are going back to normal yet?

Funny, but I live in Los Angeles and the fires have impacted me only very slightly, in that the traffic was a little worse than normal for a couple of days and the air quality is worse than normal.

If you live in San Diego, Malibu or San Bernardino, though, there is a major impact. Half a million people were evacuated, houses have been destroyed, I think 500,000 acres have been burned, etc., so it really depends on where you live.

Yeah. The fires have had zero impact on my area (eastern part of LA County), unless you count a bunch of ash in the air.

Same here. Like I mentioned elsewhere, just an acrid stink in the air for a few days (much less now), and fine ash drifting down everywhere.

Sunsets are spectacularly red though :)

Funny thing for me was when the fires were the worst, the traffic was best for me, so it actually had a positive effect for me. Not that I'd wish wildfires on anyone for my convenience or anything ;)

I would, but I'd be picky about who I'd wish them on.

I heard a sports reporter talking to a Toronto radio station about leaving his home in the middle of the night because his neighbourhood was hit. His was one of three (originally 12) in the area not totally destroyed. Man was that scary...
