Any benefit to clearing this before starting the game?

I´d say when starting a new game yes, when continuing an old one, no - there are the data of the areas you´ve been before. Useful in cities IMHO

Otherwise, clearing the cache is basically useful when you experience problems with loading areas, errors regarding missing or corrupted files, etc...

I'm thinking that if you're moving from one area to another, the program has to dump some of the cache to fit in the new stuff (unless you've got your cache size set to 'huge' I've got it set to 999m). If you dump it before starting to play that day, only the info that you'll need will be in the cache. After it's loaded it of course. But you won't be walking around with the cache stuffed with "Promenade" files when you're in Brynlaw.

Seems to make sense, but I'm no geek...

    How's about some imput!

[IMG] You're right. (From what I understood of your post anyway).

If you completely clear the cache before starting to play the game, the game will then copy into the cache folder all files of the area you will start in. So for instance if you started in Spellhold, all Spellhold files would load into your cache, provided that you have enough room in the cache dir. The more room you give for the cache folder, the less it will access your CDs. It's the same thing with full install, only that in this case it copies the files into the cache folder from your CD directories you have on the HD. A bit faster than CD copy, but esentially, the same thing.

If you cache is big enough to hold all areas you have been to, it will not overwrite older stuff. But if it isn't, it will only keep in cache the latest two areas you have been to, for example.
