Is there? The only way he covers his playing is with good lyrics. But if you ignore these, you can tell that his playing is just dreadful.

Can anyone think of someone so piss awful (famous I mean)?

Maybe thats why he's more known for his lyrics than his guitar?

Most famous people who you've heard playing guitars are probably guitarists. They got famous because they play guitar, and didn't get their fame for playing badly. Bob Dylan might not be the best guitar player, but he isn't bad either. He might even not be the best singer ever, but he sure makes some good music.

And you have to take into account that not only does he play guitar, but he usually is blowing into a harmonica too ;) .

Dylan is most known for songs he has written or collaborated on, a list that is impressive, most impressive.

[whoops, subject leakage from the Star Wars thread]
    :D :p

I'm a big Bob Dylan fan, especially of his early stuff. He may not have been much of a guitar player, but a lot of greats, such as Jimi Hendrix have done covers of his songs.

I'm not saying he's bad at making music (at least not here ;) ), even if other people have had more success at his songs than him, but his guitar playing is probably the worst I've ever heard! I realise that playing while singing is very difficult, I do it myself, but even when he's not playing, it sounds like he's been playing less than a month.

On topic though, there is certainly no guitarist to my mind at least, that can play as bad.

I´m not a very big Dylan fan.
I only listen to him while playing HoMM3 with a friend that likes him alot. Although, with those slamming lyrics who cares if he can´t play?
Although I´m pretty sure he knows how to handle the guitar. Why else would he be in that band with all those other stars. I cant remember the name at the moment, it´s pretty late. But IIRC it was something with berries or something.

Ohh, and yeah, I´m a far much worse guitarplayer btw :D

Not a really big fan, though I know enough to be able to say that I think he's a talented songwriter but a crap guitarist. And as I hear more of his stuff bit by bit, it becomes obvious that he has had a great influence on many others. The one that really springs to mind (and this may only BE in my mind) is that INXS's clip for Need You Tonight/Mediate seems to have been influenced, at least in the Mediate part of the clip, by one of Dylan's where he's standing in an alley holding and discarding cards with some of the lyrics on it.

[IMG] I've always thought he has a terrible voice. His writing is pretty good though. Can't say I even remember his guitar playing, but like people have said above, he usually playing a harmonica while he's playing the guitar too...Something to consider, I guess.

Well, at least I do, I probably couldn't chew gum and play the guitar at the same time!
