Well, sure, a half-orc can't normally be a Blackguard, but the designers have allowed themselves an exception to the rules. Same as Aerie in BG2 - an elf Cleric/Mage, even though an elf isn't normally allowed to be a Cleric/Mage. Various characters in the series have some sort of "special personal talent" (such as Coran's extra DEX and extra Longsword proficiency) which isn't normally allowed, and in the case of Aerie (in both original and EE editions) and Dorn (in EEs only), their "special talent" is to be a class normally impossible for their race.
