Black Isle games difficulty level lever setting

    Please be kind. This may seem a dumb question but which way is the easy setting and the hard setting? In my first game of IWDII I moved the lever all the way to my left. I was all right until I got to Dragon Eye. My party was wiped out by lots & lots of frost salamanders. I moved the lever to the middle (normal) and got much less. Does this mean I played BGII in insane mode?

    Wasn't certain because other games use the same option page. Right now I'm in ToB, normal. Can't believe I made it through BGII in insane mode. No wonder I found it so hard,

    Anyway, left-easy, right-hard. So all the way to the left is the easiest setting, and all the way to the right the hardest. I believe a text explaining this appears when you push the slider around...

    [​IMG] If moving the lever all the way to the left is easy why did I land right in the middle of the salamanders. I was surrounded by them. If my Brother of the Broken ones had been alive he would have died from my language which is normally not bad. Yes, BG does tell you which eway to move. I did look in IWDII but didn't see it. Even looked in the manual.

    The number of monsters does not diminish, but you are more likely to hit them and for more damage. At least I think that's how it works. I've never used the difficulty sliders myself, but that's how it works from what I remember.

    At Easy- Monsters do half damage, no permanent character death, max hps on level up, always learn spells

    At Normal- Monsters do 75% of normal damage, no permanent character death, max hps on level up, always learn spells

    At Core Rules- Game according to D&D rules (or as close as it gets)

    At Hard- Monsters do 150% damage, everything else is same as Core

    At Insane- Monsters do double damage.

    I'm not sure if Bioware did this or not, but it is possible to make monsters use better scripts at higher difficulty levels, you might see that too.

    Thank you. I did read the description of what each level did. I just wonder if some sort of bug snuck into my game. I played the same scene quite a few times and never had the same problem. The monsters all come down the steps.
