After about ten reloads on HoF i have decided to skip the black dragon guarding the temple in Chult. I simply couldn't be bothered to wait for a lucky hit with disintergrate.
I was wondering if anyone knew the black dragons stats, special abilities, special skills etc as this seems to be the toughest beastie in IWD2
    Cheers.

IIRC, it has some sort of damage resistance to any weapon with less than +3 enchantment, a 100% acid immunity, and perhaps some mild resistances to other elemental damage.

I didn't find the dragon all that tough in HOF, relatively speaking. Since it's HOF, everyone in your party should EASILY have +4 or +5 weapons and plenty of high level ammo, and plenty of very high level spells.

There's really no need to try to get lucky with Disintegrate in HOF.

If you have a druid, simply case Call Lightning. Have your mages cast Chain Lightning. Mordenkainen's Sword works very well against the dragon as well.

I tend to only send in 2 tanks against the dragon and keep the rest of the party back and spread out (to avoid having them all get caught in an acid blast). And I start the battle buffed to the absolute max. Don't forget Mass Haste. One or 2 tough summons isn't a bad thing. They may do absolutely no damage, but they can serve as cannon fodder to take damage instead of your own PCs.

Frankly, I find this battle tougher in normal mode, cuz my party's mages aren't as strong (usually don't have Mord's Sword by this point in NM) and I don't have as much or any of the higher level ammo needed to overcome the dragon's damage resistance.

Perhaps you can make a quick search in the forums, there are many topics on this subject already. :) Though it seems your problem is exclusively in HoF mod. Odd. I found the battle way easier in HoF too!

Forget about Disintegrate, it has a %5 chance of working whatever you do, the beast's saving throws are impossible to beat in HoF!

Use crucis's advice above instead! Oh and really make a search, it can give more info/help than I can possibly conjure up right now.

Download 'DaleKeeper 2' and consult the 'creature browser' (CB). It will give you information on all the enemies in IWD2.

A fully buffed HoF party (Executioner Eyes, Mass Haste, Mordenkainen's Sword, Stoneskin, Iron Skins) will defeat Cheopek easily. Leave a few tough summons and your buffed tanks on the platform and your casters away from the platform.

Nunsbane, I prefer to let the dragon get off the platform so that my party has more maneuverability and I can spread out. When you try to force the battle on the platform, IIRC, you have to have any ranged fire come up the stairway, due to the game engine. And it becomes harder to see the characters in melee.

I suppose it a just a matter of style. I tend to like to use a couple of summons and a couple of tanks and then let my other characters spread out and use magic and ranged attacks to constantly pepper the dragon. The spread spread out characters are less vulnerable to dragon fear, due to range, and to having a bunch of them all getting hit by the breath weapon since they're well spread out.

But the spells you list in the buffs are definitely worth 2 thumbs up for the HOF version of this battle!
