All you BG devotees probably can't remember your first time through BG1 but I am still on my very first run through. I think I must be doing something very different to the walkthrough (which I am determined not to read yet) because it says I am at Chapter Three already but I have hardly done anything. Maybe this is because I followed those two idiots to the Nashkell mines straight away. I imagine that the Mines are usually much easier when you don't show up there with Level 1 characters like I did.

Now I understand why you all said the Icewind Dale II was so linear. There's no way that in IWDII I could have stumbled my way to Chapter 3 without doing all of Chapter 1 and 2 first. You can go all over the place in BG1!

Oh well, time to back up and take my battered party back to Nashkell and Beregost and see what I find to do to get a bit more XP (and some better NPCs - as I think I have all the useless ones at the moment - actually, the REALLY useless ones (Montaron, Xsar, and Jaheira have died on me already).

Seems like you need to do some exploring and some minor quests indeed.
I didn´t have this problem though, with the mines, since I explored every map that was on the way. Instead I died on some maps where I didn´t belong.
Trying to kill Vampiric Wolves with regular weapons just dont work :)

Btw, I started a new game 2 days ago.
Soloing a F/M/T and I just did the mines with levels 5/5/6. Not that much of a problem I tell ya :)
Well, to be honest, not much is hard with Algernons Cloak.
Drizzt is the only one so far that has gotten away from it´s charming looks. Hehe.

[IMG] No wonder, in BG1, you can easily advance in chapters. Until the bandit camp, it is no big deal, but there and after that, you need more experienced characters. So do some minor quests to get XP (and levels). And anyway, you can explore a lot in BG1 like a free bird! That is why we (BG1-fans) like(d) it!

Yep! BG1 and Might and Magic 6-8 were the two most non-linear games I've ever played and loved them both.

But in my last game I went to the Bandit camp at level 2 (3 for Imoen) and had little trouble. Only the guy with the full plate was hard to hit because of his AC. I had no Mage either...

Now, I'm getting killed by Nimbus in Nashkell. How do I get past him? He just mirror images then Magic Missiles all my characters until they're all dead . . . . . I can't nail more then 3 of his images before everyone is dead . . .

    @Harbourboy:

If you simply can't get past him just walk into the store and let the guards take care of him. It's kinda cheesy, but it's very helpful.

You won't get any XP though...

Take care: if you go to a store with all your characters, the guards will not do anything. You need at least one character in the same area as Nimbul (so in Nashkel). No matter if you are away from the battle (in fact, quite advisable so he won't notice and eliminate you), just be in the area. I don't know how this works with mods, I suppose it applies to them either.

Well, if you cant hit him with any physical attacks or a magic missile before he casts his mirror image just dont walk past that way yet. Do some other things and go back when you´ve advanced a level or two.

Although, equip as many ranged weapons as you can and just pause when the dialogue is over and attack him with everyone. If no one hits just reload until one do. After that it should be over in seconds.

He talks to you a bit at first so try attacking him with missile weapons from a distance whilst he walks towards you. If you have imoen in your party use backstab.

Each magic missle eliminates a mirror image.
You should have a wand that most characters can use if they have high enough Int., and one or two mages with the spell as well. They hit 100%. Cast Bless to help your hits, and also cast the spell that prevents fear/panic because he likes to cast that as well.

He is a pain if you are still level 2.

If level 3 then your mages get 2 Missles per casting and he's no problem then. ;)

[IMG] im not actually fairly new to bg1 aswell, but i hav played it a bit. neva finished it though. my advice would hav to be to check out this sorcerers place site and download that thing with all the npc names and locations. that'll help you heaps. also, when you are a bit more experianced, go to the north of the freindly arm inn and hunt down some ankeg's! be careful if you don't have good fighters!

HB > He has Boots of Avoidance, but I´d still advice ranged weapons.
If you have, say 4 characters with a ranged weapon, or a mage with MM, his Mirror Image will be disrupted and he wont be a problem.
Just pause directly after the conversation and your MM will hit him in time, if your mage is close enough that is ;)

I took him on with a low level party, it is doable. I recommend some kind of resist fear, that's how he always did me in. It you can stop him from getting the mirror spell off he's not so bad. Don't be afraid to use healing potions in this battle. That's all that saved me.
