I've read on these boards that Yoshimo eventually betrays you, that Jaheira gets abducted, and that other NPCs may be forcibly removed from the party. I have questions:

What happens to the gear they carry? Does Yoshimo drop his rings and such? Does Jaheria drop her gear before she is taken?

When and how do these events happen. Roughly when does Yoshimo betray you (and how - does he backstab you?)? When is Jaheria abducted? Do other NPCs, like Nalia or Aerie, get removed from your party?

I've completed a half-dozen quests, most recently liberated Nalia's (now my) keep, and I'm itching to drop someone and take on Amonem or Jan (or whatever they are called), but can't decide who to drop. It would make it easier if I knew someone was going to leave soon...

As the other discussion on this matter many moons ago, yes they take their items for they did earn them risking their life for you did they not? You gave them these items as a reward for their services and friendship. Certainly, you wouldn't be taking those items back now would you because that would piss me right off if I helped you do something and you turned around and wanted all that I earned in your backpack.

It varies. Nalia, Jaheira, Jan, Mazzy, Cernd all leave your party for various reason. They keep their gear (makes sense) but it is not lost as you can get them back if you wish.
When Yoshi betrays you. You get the gear back when you deal with him.
Imoen goes to spellhold and gives away all her gear.
All important item, scroll cases and gem bags are given back.

As to who leaves next and when, there is no set time. You'll have to take your responsibility. This will become trickier when you will have Mazzy, Cernd, Keldorn, Valygar, Haer'Dalis, Viconia, Edwin..... to chose from.

My taking-their-gear question is largely about Yoshimo, who will betray me in some way and thus deserves no loyalty from me. I didn't give him the Glasses of Identification for his loyal service but because he had room in his backpack. Remember: He's a thief, not a paladin.

And all your talk about "risking their life" and treating NPCs right - wasn't it you, Mr. Syl, who talked in another string about how you dumped Imoen after rescuing her because she wasn't a strong enough character? And she's your damn sister! She's a large part of the whole thrust of the game! So don't lecture me about treating NPCs with respect. How dare you, you hypocritical sister-dumping, power-gaming bastard!

Can anyone tell me what prompts Yoshimo's betrayal? When it happens? And when Jaheira is taken?

 

Yoshi's betrayal is in Spellhold.
As I said Jaheira's leaving is not timed.
You have to take the poisoned man, find montaron and wait for a Harper to come and fetch her. Then you go with her, kil gavey baby and then you have to wait again for the goon squad to come and get you and then she leaves again and then you get her back.

There is no set time for her leaving the party. It will happen.

Hmm, I will get the whole Jaheira thing over with before the spellhold/asylum, what is the amount of time she is gone for if you follow here and everything?

Does it effect the romance?

 

I never "dumped" her because I never had her in my party. She got taken away from me and that's that. When I saved her in Spellhold, I told her to go to the Copper Cornet, so don't try to wring a fast one on me boy!

As for Yoshi...did he tell you he was going to betray you? I don't think so! So how would you know of this to be able to prepare for it?!

So, after spending tons of time getting Yoshi to the point where he's worth a darn, he's gonna backstab me?

Is there no way to remove his geas so you can deal with him without killing him?
