[IMG] I've played BG series for so long but I haven't find the good situation when spells like contingency, spell trigger etc worth casting.

eg for contingency, one popular way used by enemy mages will be Stoneskin when health little. But I think this is not feasible as most of the time the mage's dying as we're gang-banging him, what's the point of having stoneskin? Maybe it just make him live 5 seconds longer.

And for Spell trigger, the thing is that we have to spend one spell slot, and also the spell casted will be taken from the memorized list. Most of the time those spell castable are of low levels. If we've got rob of vegna, casting low-level spell faster shouldn't be a problem!

That's just my humble opinion. I like to know how ppl use these spells as there might be some great strategy that I never thought of!

I find the trigger spells much more useful than the contigency spells. Just because you have to use a spells slot and it takes away three more when cast doesn't make the spell bad. All you have to do is plan what you want to cast with the trigger, rest, cast it, change the spellbook back to what you want, re-rest and you're ready to go. Spell triggers and the like stay with your character for a long time (possibly infinately until you use them), so they are worth the trouble. Now as for what to use, for most of my game time, I'd stick to mass damage spells. Three fireballs, three chain lightning, the skull trap...you get the idea. For where it counts, though, (big battles) just keep it for three lower resistance. An imediate lower resistance of 90% is a massive help, and if you have another caster, right after you use up the trigger, have him/her cast warding whip or something to quickly begin knocking down the enemies defenses in one quick fatal swoop. That is the best use of spell trigger. Massively effective whether you have a robe of Venca or not.

Yeah! I agree as my spell trigger is still in my ability after 3 months of gaming!

Spell trigger with 3 lower resistance is cool! Especially cast it during time stop and then mass attack!

    Thanks for the tips!

    [IMG] Hi,

Try using invisibility and stoneskin in your contingency. Thats more effective. Also, with a squishy mage, don't set it down at 25%, that only might be 15 hp or so, or one hit. At least 50% is better.

Good sequencer combos I use a lot are:
    minor sequencer
bless and chant in a minor sequencer for Aerie, quick party buffing for unplanned fights
    two acid arrows
    two magic missiles
    sequencers
greater malison followed by slow followed by web
    greater malison, slow, emotion
    three fireballs

    spell triggers
    three lower resistance
    three Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting
    lower resistance, pierce magic, breach

Aerie can put her cleric spells in sequencers/triggers which is a big plus, false dawn, bolt of glory, three holy smites etc.

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt
