I want to know about the best boss you've ever had at a job.

I am thinking about this because, as I am looking for work, I had to get letters of recommendation from my last employer. I adored her, it was the best job I've ever had -- and if academic funding wasn't annoyingly inconstant I would be there until I die. I knew this already. But I go to get this letter (which she wrote in three days) and holy cats! She made me sound like God Himself.

She was so contaigously enthusiastic, so brilliant scientifically, so sweetly open to my little opinions -- that she inspired immense loyalty when I was there. To find that she returns that loyalty now that I am gone -- makes me determined to deserve it by being wonderful and a credit to her leadership.

If all the critical jerk bosses out there got this concept, everyone would love to go to work.

So tell me -- who has does it for you?

I have not had that many jobs and therefore bosses in my days. But I must say that the shopkeeper in the little supermarket where I worked for a few years was a really good boss. He really burnt for his job and sure it could be a pain sometimes but it was inspiring to see a middleaged man that loved his little store and his work. But he was still a nice man and we had a good relations, used to go out and eat together on the lunches. The man had no life at all to speak about, but I liked him :)
