I'm doing a theme with the Beast Master and I'm planning on giving him the Ashen Scales +2, but apparently he can't use metal armour (the kit description doesn't mention this, however)

Now, does anyone know if he can use 'natural' armour, e.i. the Ashen Scales (made from wyverns according to the item description), Ankheg Plate, the heavier dragon scales etc.?

Beast Master is a druid afterall, and druids cannot wear plate armour IIRC. I think their max armour was only leather or something. So therefore I'm guessing they can't wear the Ankheg plate (it has plate in it!). I'm not too sure about the dragon scales... but since thieves can wear the shadow scale, I would assume druids can too. But maybe not the red one since thieves can't wear that.

[Edit}Oops my bad. Should stop making posts after midnight when I'm too sleepy. Must have confused it with the druid that summons spirit animals.[/Edit]

A druid? How so? It's a ranger kit.

The druid can, in fact, wear 'natural armour', which means all dragon scales and Ankheg Plate (haven't tried the Ashen Scales though). IIRC, some of the kits are restricted to only some of the 'natural armours' because of their kit's general restrictions...
I think the SP-fixpack 'fixes' this - I seem to remember reading that it makes the druid class unable to wear Ankheg Plate (which isn't a logical or legit fix IMO), but I don't know if this goes for all the 'natural armours'.

The beast master kit description states they can not wear anything heavier than studded leather. Shadow Dragon armor is considered leather, otherwise you won't be able to wear any of the various monster armors.

No, it doesn't. I've checked it several times (both in game and manual). It says that Archers can't wear metal armour and that Stalkers can't wear greater than studded leather - but according to the manual and the in game description the Beast Master's 'only' restriction is that he can't use metal weapons.

I'm playing SoA - I don't know if the in game kit description has been revised for ToB?

Anyways, I've checked it. They can't wear Ankheg Plate which (probably) means that they won't be able to wear dragon scales better than Shadow Dragon Scales.

Ah, this is indeed a change to the description from the expansion-that-shall-not-be-named. The SoA kit description lacks this vital bit of information.

It doesn't, with or without ToB.
