I like it much better than the first, though I wish the campaigns weren't so short. Or that they'd integrated the campaigns from the first game into the new one, so you could play both on the improved combat and build system.

Anyone else played it yet? Or want a more detailed review, if you're thinking of buying it?

Things I don't like about this game.

    - The buildings and walls are ridiculously weak. You no longer need siege weapons. And the gates of Minas Tirith and Helms Deep are so weak that even unupgrades swordsmen can take them down, given enough time.

    - Elven archers with silverthorne upgrades. They are so ridiculously strong. They take down dragons , fellbeasts AND the Balrog in about 2-4 seconds.
I think this is supposed to be fixed in a future patch.

    - The campaign is too short.

    - The war of the ring gameplay mode seemed promising but it's simply a spiced up version of the "search and destroy" missions from the first game.

    - No Rohan.

The game isn't a sequal. It's an expansion in my opinion.

Well, i'm still in the first mission of the good campaign, so i can't judge the game yet, but it sure looks nice so far.

Yeah Elvenblade, I have to agree with you about the silverthorn arrows. Whenever I play War of the Ring against anyone, and I'm playing as the elves, all I need to do is make sure I have 2 upgraded battalions of Lorien Archers garrisoned at any given location, and I can usually fend off and defeat most armies - especially if lead by a flying beast hero - with little fuss. This is a popular complaint, and will hopefully be addressed in a patch soon.

I agree, the walls are very weak. To the point where I don't really build them anymore. IMO, swords and arrows shouldn't be able to damage walls. Walls should be invulnerable to anything but siege weapons, IMO.

Also, I didn't think I would miss Rohan as their own army...I figured Men of the West would be enough. But the only element from Rohan they retained are the Rohirrim. So essentially, it's Gondor with an extra unit. No Rohan buildings at all. Boring. :(

Despite these issues, I'm really enjoying the game. The Create-a-hero feature is especially cool, though, not earth-shattering. It's a great game though I admit to being tired of it sooner than I thought I would.
