    Hi there,
I've just finished BG1 with a party like this:

    Me - Ranger
    Imoen - Thief
    Ajantis - Paladin
    Kivan - Ranger
    Garrick - Bard
    Coran - Fighter/Thief

Well, i pretty understood all the things, just some get me wrong:

-what's Bards song and what's it good for? What it does?
-why, when i get + for my item skills i cannot raise them over ++ (thus making +++ on bow/long sword)?

    Thanks, MG.

Only pure fighters can put more than ** in a weapon... Rangers, Paladins and multi class characters can only put **

And I've got no clue what does the bard song do...

The bard's song basically adds +1 to luck, so your party gets +1 to hit/save, etc ... it may not seem worth it but having your fighters hit more frequently can be more effective than your bard actually attacking.

Bard's are far more useful in the sequel, where the song is actually of more use :)

So that means, Bard's song is nearly useless in combat (rather use wand of summoning)?

Then, will i be able to rise my skill in a weapon (if i am a ranger) to +++ in BT: TotSC or BG2?

And, is my character importable to Icewind dale?

Weren't you listening? :| I said that rangers can only put ** in a weapon... Always.

Never tried importing to icewind dale, but i'm pretty sure it won't work.

well, it's not entirely useles ... you can use the wand to summon some monsters then go back to singing :) you have to decide whether all your fighters getting +1 to hit would cause quicker deaths than Garrick joining in with a bow.

no ... in BG1 and TOTSC, Rangers can only have ++ in a weapon slot ... I can't answer the BG2 question properly here, but the standard Ranger kit is the same throughout all games ... but check-out the BG2 forums for info on the kits (like Archer).

Your character is NOT importable into Icewind Dale, but is into BG2.

You could try installing TuTu if you want more from your Ranger, but not quite sure if Tutu can be discussed in this forum or not?
