Bardic magic is supposed to be improved on Charism, right? I just started this game, but my Bard started with no magic, which I found strange. Is that normal?
By the way, this game seems far better than it's antecessor - although I have only began playing it. I guess it is the better presentation.
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah. Bards only start gaining spells from L2.

Also their rate of progress is pretty slow and at some points you will find that you more spells lernt at a level than you have casting slots. eg: at Bard[11] you will have learnt 3 L4 spells but you can cast only one spell per rest.

Generally, it's reckoned that you're best off multiclassing at level 11, and not bothering with level 12 bard-ness. I'm not sure how true that is though; I fancy that 3E rules could make more of bards, used correctly. Still, I rarely use them because there's not much space in a 4-man strike team for a bard, and I generally don't bother with larger parties. Where's Scythesong when you need him? He'd set you straight! ;)

Bards get their last song at L11. Since songs are their unique feature and their spell progression sucks as compared to Sorcerers, most people stop their Bard at L11.

The Bard is useful because of his songs. Try using them in combat and out of it for buffing your party. You will notice why Bards are still popular.

Yeh, Bard 11/Sorcerer 19 is a good combination: both use charisma and both get arcane spells. compare that with bard songs and you get one hellova character!

A bard with high charisma is really useful at the wandering village...but I won't spoil it for you

It's not so much an issue of power. Rather that at a number of places in the game a bard has additional dialogue options that allow quests to be solved in a different way. At the Wandering Village, this bardic option can save a lot of trekking back and forth into Fell Woods.

It definitely shortcuts the Barrow Wight quest. I don't think it helps with any others, but it might - I don't remember.
