Baldur's Gate Arena

[IMG] I think a multiplayer fighting arena where you could pit your party against another party would be very fun. It would be set up so you could fight without fear of losing items. I'd really like to duel someone other than the computer for once. This would probably be very hard to set up though. The only practicle way to pause the game would be either to have it automaticly pause and then resume for a agreed period of time or gave a no pause game. What do you think?

  2. That could be cool, but very hard to make.
Try email those from www.teambg.org and ask if they can make such a thing

i know you can can play multiplayer and fight along side each other (having two parties fighting side by side or having your character in the same party as the person your playing with). Therefore there should be no reason why you can't fight party v party.

I understand that but you'd risk losing all of your equipment which makes people afraid of doing it and this would have rules so it would be fair. You'd be able to look at the oppenents party prior to the fight and so on. I know you can fight in the game but I think it would really be cool in a set area and no way people could cheat at all. There could also be ladder tournaments and betting of magical items. Oh well, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. :(

I would like that. I never play on multiplayer because everyone cheats. If there was a way to make it so you couldn't I would play though.

If you fought in a normal multi-player game and the main character died you wouldn't get to finish the battle so that is a bad idea.

    Anyone qualified to answer this?
I there any reason why you couldn't bring your party to the arena naked and equip from an "infinite" inventory provided by the server?

That's true, but what about making it one on one rather than whole parties? Also making it such that two players can't have identical class character, so no Mage Vs Mage, or Fighter Vs Fighter. That way it doesn't come down to just stats. Problem is, with sheer number of possible confgurations, cheating and all, it would be hard to find a perfect solution. If a a multiplayer game can be done though, no reason why an arena can't be.
And what happens with experience? Protections? If PCs arrive there "naked" (no cloaks, armour, rings, boots) then suddenly my favourite mage is not quite so tough.

Having said that, my mage chracter would whoop all your chracters butts! ;) Hehe. Actually only thing I'm afraid of is Keldorn with Carsomyr and 100% immunity to magic and regeneration. Every mages worst nightmare I feel! Hmmm....maybe I can summon a demon to eat him...Paladin en flambeƩ. :)

I don't think it would come down to stats, it would come down to skill. A few stat points aren't going to make much of a difference if it's a party vs. a party.

Wish Black Isle would do us all a favor and make their own online server. That's why games like Diablo 2 and Starcraft are still popular............

    Starcraft? Popular?
Sorry, I just don't tend to mix the two very closely. Used to play it, but quit two years ago after finding SoA. ;)

[IMG] Seeeeeeeeems to me that something of a blundering mishap would procreate such an absurd idea. It would turn as Magic: the Gathering's Apprentice and Battle.net's Diablos. Cheat, cheat, cheat all you can, can't catch me I'M THE BG ARENA MAN! Plus for the question asked by many a drunk gonad, "But why? Why pit adventurers against one another instead of against a common foe in a constellation-composed battle of goodwill and monster-knowledge? Why not enable the creature to be the human and vice-versa? Open all the windows and recieve a better draft, I say!" (these comments trademarked by DrunkGonads Inc.)

  13. Hey that is an interesting idea.I never play the multiplayer because you will cheat me.

    But let's make it one-on-one battle.Remember don't be a cheater!

    I hate cheaters!

Yeah, I suppose that people would cheat all the time, like they did in Diablo.

But then again you can always find people to play with who don't cheat.

After awhile, SoA gets boring by yourself.

What about a good party vs an evil party? That could work, and still fit in with the general concept.

Playing against a human would be much more fun, in my opinion.

But I guess the engine wasn't really made for it.

I'll just wait a few years till NWN comes out!

[IMG] After a while the game gets boring?

IMHO the game gets better every time you play it.
I bought the game a few days after the release and still play it
