    Greetings All,

I am working on a cleric build. I am currently going to use him in Shadowlords, and later Dreamcatcher. Possibly also in the official campaign and later SoU if I get that. I love the deity Lathander, and wish to RP this character as a disciple of The Morninglord as accurately as possible.
Based on this I will select the Sun and Strength domains, and because priests of Lathander are expected to be physically fit and active and all that, I’m pushing for more of a meleeish build. I’m not sure about the weapon aspect of this build however. I know that Lathander favors maces, but does that restrict his priests to using maces as well? This is what I have so far:

    Oriseus Zora
    Human
    STR 14, DEX 10, CON 14, WIS 15, INT 12, CHA 12
    (maybe INT 10 CHA 14, or INT/CHA 10 STR 16)

    Skills
    Concentration – Max
    Spellcraft – Max
    Persuade – Max (RP)
    Extra: Heal, Lore

    Feats (in order)
Power Attack, Cleave, Combat Casting, Extend Spell, Lightning Reflexes, Toughness, Spell Penetration, Maximize Spell, Empower Spell

I’m open to any and all suggestions here, including multiclassing possibilities.

    Thankyou in advance.

While I'm not sure if NWN forces this or not, but in 3e rules a cleric uses the favored weapon of his or her god (in this case maces). Even if NWN doesn't enforce that, I have trouble believing that a true cleric of Lathander wouldn't use a mace.

Charisma is important in this game, I'd go with 10 int and 14 charisma.

If you desire to multiclass, fighter or paladin would be a good way to go. I'd just stick with the pure cleric and get the better spells, though.

    Ah! Morninglords! I love them...

Seems you have a good character allready. Got little to say, but the subject gave me a warm fealing so I just had to reply.

You don't have to use maces as a Morninglord, but for roleplaying matters, it's almost a must. But if you want to take adventage of your strength, for example, you could use a 2-handed flail. I just go for the mace.

Just as Rastor already said, Charisma is important (and since Morninglords are one of the best met characters in faerun, I have the idea that they have high charisma too), so drop the intelligence and raise the charisma to 14 (and yes, max your Persuade).
Charisma is also usefull for spelldurations like divine strength and other buffers, so it won't hurt to change some skills for some powerfull spells.

Since Elaellur Sunthunder, my Morninglord, is often in melee, I thought it would be nice to give him some fighter-classes, or paladin if you like, but my char is NG, just like Lathander himself. I also gave him Weapon Focus (Mace) and perhaps Weapon-specialisation if I don't mind the higher level spells.

I gave him Sun-domain and Extra Turning for RP. And I like to get rid of the stench of living corpses.

Make sure you get some Strength-enhancing items, you'll need some heavy armor, shield and weapons to compensate your low dex.

    Thanks for the help.

In my FR Campaign Setting book, it says that Lathander's weapon, Dawnspeaker is either a light or heavy mace. Not sure though if I wanna give up the AC of the shield, and I really don't like maces much, simply because they lack symetry with a large shield, it just looks unbalanced and awkward. For a deity so caught up on physicalities and vanity, I think he'd understand me using a Warhammer ;)
