So give me your opinion. I am looking to get an autograph of Gene Kelly on ebay. The thing is the bids range from under $10 to over $300. Some are just postcards, while others are movie stills and pictures. But there still is a wide range even pictures. The other thing is, I've noticed that there are about three different versions of his signature. One is the way the 'G' in Gene is written and another big one is the way the 'n' in Gene is written. I admit, my signature differs at times, but the way someone writes a certain letter, usually remains the same. Also, some stars do change their signatures as they gain fame to one that is easier to write quickly.
All the autographs say they come with a 'certificate of authenticity' but I can type up one of those and send a hotdog saying this hot dog was paritally eaten by Elvis and I am enclosing a certificate of authenticity as proof.
So anybody have any suggestions as to how I can be sure its the real thing? I have other autographs that I know were legit. One was from my wife's uncle, Barry Fitzgerald. Her family knew it was legit because they recognized it. I have a Star Trek original series cast signature on a picture, I've met two of them and gotten their signatures before, so I had something to go on there as well.

I dunno. I shouldn't think you'll ever find out if it's legit without something to compare it with after you've bought it.

    $300!

Whatever happened to the days of:

Guy - "Wow...you're that one guy from that new movie...can I have your autograph?"

    Celebrity - "Sure...here ya go."

Guy - "Sweet! I'm going to frame it and put it on my wall!"

I like how the recent episode of The Simpsons makes fun of selling autographs on Ebay. :rolling:

Unfortunately Gene Kelly is dead. So I can't really go up to him and ask him for his autograph. :D
