    The game crashed.

If you haven't got the latest patch, install it.

Try again from your last save point, might well just be a blip.

If the patch doesn't help, please try with different graphics options in BGconfig utility.
If that doesn't help, try with reinstalling the game. Btw, which graphics card do you use?

Err... could it be the obvious? The game could not access to necessary file, either the character files or... others. Reinstall the game (and quit all background programs, except for your firewall).

I'm using a Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS Pro. And I have a patch but not sure if its the latest one. Currently, I think my version is 2.0.23035 and I have the ease of use mod. Will this affect the game in any way?

No Virne, it doesn't have to be a problem with game data but can be the problem with DirectX/gfx card driver.

Hercules prophet you say? That card had issues with IWD2. Please make sure you have the latest driver installed.

Have you tried with disabling 3d support inside BGconfig?

Yes. I have the latest driver installed and the game still crashes.

I tried disaabling 3D support but still, the game crashes.

I had no problems playing IWD2 with my graphic card except it being a bit lagging when there are too many creatures around.

I'm going to try reinstalling the whole game again. :)

    ....After reinstalling....

I still get the same problem. After disabling 3D support.

    Where's the latest patch??

:shake: In the Heaven of Patches? Or maybe it´s somewhere down here...

Ok... It´s not your 3d-card, so it´s somewhere else. Had a samekind of problem some years ago, and the reason proved out to be a bad driver on my SCSI-chip, integrated to the motherboard. Did that sound too difficult? ==Update every single piece of hardware you have, everything you can think of, and if it still says 'error' after that: SELL the whole damn computer and buy a new one!

Okay, so I stopped playing BG2 for 2 months. Now I replayed that part again and guess what, the same thing happens.

I downloaded the latest BG2 patch and my driver is already updated. But the program still suddenly crashes at the place where the dragon is supposed to change me to drow from.

The message that pops up says "Asserion failed error" obvioulsy, but they also stated a ".bam file is corrupted" or something like that.

So what is the damned problem. Does it have to do with my HDD being corrupted or what.

.BAM stands for Bioware AniMation IIRC so your harddrive isn't the porblem. Your porblem is that the savefile is corrupted. I think so at least and I suck in these thing. Do you have any MODs installed or have you hacked your character somehow?

    Ashest,

this particular error is mentioned on the bioware page :

    http://www.bioware.com/games/shadows_amn/support/assertion/

Uninstalling the game may *not* have deleted any files in three subdirectories, (cache, temp and tempsave) so any corrupt files there would continue to cause a problem.

Try deleting all files from those three directories (they're only temporary files and will be rewritten to your hard drive as necessary)

Otherwise uninstall the game again, check that *ALL* directories and subdirectories have been removed, then re-install.
