assertion errors

What's the deal with these damn assertion errors???

Everytime i get to some point in the game where it's either been tough to get to or really boring (magma time loop!) i get one of these damn things (being quite tame with the bad language here)

any of you genius's got any clues?

 

assertion errors generally indicate corrupted files. Try re-installing the game. If that doesnt work, I'm not going to suggest that your cd might be corrupted, but 'm sure someone else might know if that is the case.

 

i've played the game loads of times before, i don't think it's the cd

 

Fresh reinstall, might be some corrupted s*it in your override folder.
I had a bunch of these in IWD 1, reinstall worked. Then remember patches.

 

ok but will re-installing the game wipe off the game that i'm playing at the moment?

 

no. Not unless you delete all your save files.

I wouldnt suggest it. Certainly not yet. Try a fresh install of the game, and see if you are still having the same problems. The saved file may be corrupted, but I would only arrive at that conclusion as a last resort.

Stickies = Crap that stays on top without any new messages and are thus ignored completely and always. This is a fact.

 

Of course you have to ask yourself why it was made a sticky in the first place. Maybe because it had important information that would have been buried by new posts before long?

Ignoring it is one thing. Dismissing its relevance and importance is too far.

 

i wouldn't say that shire. the ones we had at black isle website were great. i can never pick out the relevent bits. i need lists

 

That wasn't my opinion on the matter, it was the general opinion/behaviour, observation made on the +10 forums I read / have read.

I read stickies, well usually, if the topic might hint that it has the solution for my probs.

 

oh, i'm sure it's very clear, i just have a problem putting things into the context of the game. I have a very bad short term memory so it makes things difficult to understand. That's why a lot of my posts don't make sense, i have to keep editing them as I forget what i've just written. I hate using stickies and walk throughs. I have to write them down/print them out and then highlight the bits that i need. sad, aint it?

 

Not sad, I'd like all these thing on paper, but I really hate to print the many many pages with my old printer. God I miss real game manuals, I just hate the .pdf format.
