I've got a question, if I'd take one level of Assasin along with a Tiefling Rogue/Mage, simply to be able to use the Death Attack, (in combination with True Strike) would that be usefull? Or would the DC of Death Attack be too low to be of any use later on? (10+Assasinlevel+Intmod=14)

Would it be wiser to forgo the prestigeclass and go on with rogue/mage?

I would imagine that how useful death attack would be would depend on what you're doing in the campaign right now (assassinations for the king, sure; fighting vampires, no). If I were you, I would invest a bit more after getting into the Assassin's guild and whatnot, but that's just me.

[edited out the loophole thing with True Strike and death attack after I read the fine print. ;) ]

Okay, thanks. In order to become an Assasin one must have at least 8 ranks in Move Silently and Hide. This is ability modifiers excluded right? So only from level 5 could one possibly advance to Assasin? (Max ranks etc)

If ability modifiers are included, I could take 1 level of rogue, and from then only take levels of assasin and wizard. But I doubt that ability mods are included...

Yes, they say you need ranks for a reason. The minimum level for becoming an Assassin is indeed level five.

And you have to get inside the assassin's guild. And to do that (according to the DMG), you have to kill a person for no reason other than to prove you can do it. Just something to remember; you don't become an assassin without learning the ways of an assassin. That's why it's a prestige class.
