[IMG] I've been trying to make some custom armour to use on my character, but I've been having a little problem:

My character is a rouge/illusionist, and I want to make some elven chain- type armour for him. I've repeatedly created sets of armour, only to find that instead of being nice light armour like I wanted, they are classified as HEAVY ... I've made sure that the setting was set to light, etc, but no matter what I do, it comes out as heavy. It may be because I'm using a model for my armour that is only meant for heavy armours, but I hardly see why that should effect it...

Any help would be very much appreciated,

    Cheers, Void

Two things are very important when creating custom armour:

    1. If you used an existing suit of armour as your base model, and then edited that version, the 'new' armour you're making will always be based on that original blueprint - hence the classification will be 'heavy' no matter what you change.

    2. The other thing to keep in mind is that regardless of the blueprint you are using, changing the torso appearance will have a direct affect on AC, weight and cost. So simply by changing the appearance of the torso you're light armour can essentially become heavy armour, although the actual classification won't change.

The classification (from point 1 above) is used to determine what armour prof. feats are necessary to use the armour. The AC, weight, max dex bonus, spell failure, etc, from point #2 will alter how it functions.

If you want to make a custom suit of armour, it's usually best to pick an existing suit that is similar to the one you want to create, that way you address point #1 above. So if you want to create light armour, pick standard leather armour, and so on.

Once you've got you 'base' model to use, then modify the appearance, starting with the torso. The list of available torso's is ranked from the very lightest clothing (for robes and such) through light armour (leather, studded), medium and finally heavy armour. You'll notice that the AC, weight and cost on the basics tab will change as the torsos change. Just find the top and bottom range of torso's for the armour you want, and then pick between them (there's about 4 or 5 per AC/weight combination). Once you've got the one in that range you like, then go on to alter the other pieces, colour, and properties.

For your elven chain, the light armour that most closely resembles it is a chain shirt. Use that as your base model (blueprint) and then modify it as necessary.
