This is the offending animated cartoon, taking aim on the more asinine expressions of stirred up/pent up outrage by tea baggers, the guys who habitually call President Obama a Nazi, a Marxists, a Socialist, a Communist and any other “ist” they can think of:

Who is Fiore? The extreme left Wall Street Journal has called him "the undisputed guru of the form" of the animated political cartoon. Fiore can be forgiven for sarcastically pointing out that the tea baggers have indeed been a little short on substance. Fiore wrote on his blog that he's been receiving death threats over his 90-second animated film "How to speak Tea Bag".

Apparently the cartoon was discussed on “The O’Reilly Factor” with Bill O’Reilly on FOX News, and soon after the show ended Fiore started to receive “death threats” from Tea Party tea baggers. Fox as a rage generator and amplifier? No news there.

How do such threats sound like? Fiore was kind enough to let us in: Probably somewhere along this line.

I can't see the cartoon or hear the death threats, but I don't really care. Anyone who makes such threats, be they the leftist of the left or conservative to the nine hundreth power, should be investigated, found, arrested, and punished severely. Anyone who wishes to punish Fiore should not purchase any media item that carries his stuff, and call the advertisers and state that as long as they carry his stuff they will not purchase from the advertising company.

IMHO the threateners are no better than the Muslim extremists who killed the Danish filmmaker. We simply cannot have such stupidity in an open, democratic society.

Do you mean 'threatened the Danish cartoonist' or 'killed the Dutch filmmaker'?

As for the cartoon, I'd say it's rather mild. 6 out of 10 on the funnybone scale... It probably got so much attention because Fox presented it to the wrong audience. The Daily Show made some far better, and more poignant, insults IMHO.

I only mentioned the dead filmmaker, but the threats against the Dutch cartoonist are in the same category -- behaviour like that should not be tolerated no matter how vociferously a belief or position is held.

I found it more of a desperate attempt to belittle the messenger so others will ignore the message.

HAHA I like you can make the same mistake twice, even after it has bin pointed out.

I was a Dutch filmmaker who was killed and a Danish cartoonist who was threatened.

No danish filmmaker have been threatened over a film (yet), and the same probably goes for dutch cartoonist.

That said, this case really shows what kind of nutjobs the tea baggers are.

OK, I must have missed a fact check -- I was under the impression that a few years ago a Dutch filmmaker -- Gogh, I thought his name was -- had been killed in the street. Was he in afact a cartoonist? Or is this a result of some of the weird food my students fed me?

I also thought that a Dutch cartoonist was threatened because of some stuff he drew about Mohommed. Am I wrong there too? Please inform me -- usually my memory for that stuff is pretty good.

It was a Dutch film maker (Theo van Gogh) who was stabbed to death for making a movie about militant Islam (Wikipedia link).

A number of Danish cartoonists have been threatened for drawing caricatures of the prophet Mohammad for a Danish newspaper (Wikipedia link). One of the cartoonists, Kurt Westergaard, was recently attacked by a Muslim extremist in his home but escaped unhurt.

So what factual mistake did I make????

The general discusison reminds me of the African journalist who flippantly said that the Muslim population in her city shouldn't be so wound up about a beauty contest that was being held. She said that Mohammed would likely have married one of the contestants. She received death threats, Muslims rioted in the streets, and she was forced to flee to a country in the far north of Europe -- Sweden, IIRC.

So my question to anyone who makes death threats against cartoonists or journalists is this: "Do you really want to be associated with that sort of insanity?"

your factual mistake LKD is, that you continually think the cartoonist threatened was of dutch origin, when in he fact he was of danish origin.

Danish meaning from the contrie of Denmark.

    Dutch meaning from Holland.

    its two different countries...

I guess I'm just obsessed with double Ds :good:

OK, country of origin aside, I don't care WHERE it happens, death threats are not acceptable behaviours in response to cartoons! Is everyone HAPPY now?

Insanity or ideologically & religiously (of a certain bend) promoted rage? Granted such rage may also be related to other things like reactionary attitudes towards social progress and/or feelings of loss in social status but those are capable of feeding such rage.

My condolances.. You've had some tough luck, while you were leading this double life:p

LKD, in case you still don't get it: I commented on your mixing up the dutch filmmaker with the danish cartoonist.
    You said:
    "killed the danish filmmaker"
    "threats against the dutch cartoonist"
    It should be:
    "killed the dutch filmmaker"
    "threats against the danish cartoonist"

You can say 'netherlandish' and 'denmarkian' in the future, to avoid confusion:D.
