    [IMG] hi all,

so i tried the trap technique out for the first time. i used it to fight the mind flayers and umber hulks in the sewers. i got really stressed by the fight, as i suddenly remembered yoshis and jans ability. :)

i began to wonder after setting a trap took 3 mins for the game to respond. at that time i wasn't aware, that setting some traps would disturb the game, so i set all in all like 10-15, but always in a group of five and then used them immediately.

turning to map modus the game shows me traps where there are none, and when i move the cursor over the icon on the position of the former trap the game crashes on me.

i thought "heck i'll leave this place anyway", and by turning off the marks on the map of this area i had no crashes, but also no marks of standard places of interest (btw, is it right, that the map, e.g. on the promenade showed me all important locations right in the beginning; before even exploring the area? if so, i don't like it.). i thought this was over, and stickied in my brain "remove the trap markers everytime you set one"

BUT, afterwards, i set one trap in De'Arnise Hold during the quest for nalia (my first trap on this map), and it took 3 minutes until the game responded again. since i learned about the trap problem in the game, i decided to delete the marker right away. looking at the De'Arnise Hold map showed me a trap marker at the position of the trap which already has been triggered of one of the beasts that moved around there. putting the cursor over the marker = crash. :aww:

...uuh, i decided to keep it short, oh boy...
    so my question is:

can i remove the trap locations of expired traps with an editor?

i already toyed around with some, but couldn't find anything (possibly due to my lack of knowledge).

i hope i didn't screw my game. my saved game that is. :sosad:
i think, i didn't back up my saved games to that far in the past, and beginning the game again would be a pain in the anomen. ;)

big thanks for your help and/or ideas, and maybe this will help others with the same problem and platform (see below) out as well,

[IMG] is there a macintosh version of shadowkeeper? if so, could you post the link?

the thing that bugged me out, was that placing too many traps (without removing the markers) on another map could affect a map of an area where you haven't been yet (placing too many traps in the sewers = crash when placing one in, e.g. trademeet).

do you guys think i should reinstall the game?
of course i searched the board for info about this (just in case ne1 is bugged), but couldn't find something usable.

    except for the warning.

There is no ShadowKeeper for Mac.
Your problem won't go away with reinstalling the game as all markers are stored in the saved game files.
As Rachel already replied to you, the possible way to fix the saved game is messing with NearInfinity.
The other possible way to deal with it was introduced by MaxTeamBG who had an idea of modding the game in a way that it summons the invisible creature which can detect and remove all traps in the area when you press the rest button. However, this was never made.

[IMG] the thing is, that i don't want to activate traps that are still lying around (for there are none; they've all been activated by monsters). even when there are no traps lying in the dungeon, their markers can be found on the map.

and obviously this influences setting traps on fresh maps as well. (takes uber-long and sets one marker on the fresh map that crashes the game if you move the mouse over it.)
    :(

if i can get NearInfinity and manage to fix the saved game, i'll post it here and on forums.interplay.com.

but if anyone else has any ideas, i appreciate them greatly, thanks,
    ford

ps (slightly OT): i found a note in a forum, here or on interplay.com, saying that people shouldn't care about posting spoilers, for the game is dated; i got the game a month ago, and there may still be people that just start to play it.
i'm glad (almost) every spoiler is marked in posts by people.

    update:
i posted this to the interplay forum as well, but if someone is looking for it here then he'll find it now:

just to let you know, i got in touch with Jon Olav Hauglid, the author of NearInfinity, and he confirmed, that NearInfinity.jar needs version 1.4 of Java in order to run.

some quick facts, for Mac users:

    - under MacOS 9.2.2 the MRJ 2.2.5 is the highest version of it you can get for classic and it is equivalent to Sun's JDK version 1.1.8.
    - under MacOS X.1 java is at a version before 1.4 and can't be updated. :sosad:
    - under MacOS X.2 java is at a preview version of 1.4. you can get it here: http://developer.apple.com/java/
Jon said NearInfinity.jar could work with it. could someone please confirm this? :hmm:

right now i'm posting at the baldur mac specific website:
    http://ire.mainecoon.net

they have a saved game editor and a resource editor for the Mac version (classic and X) of Baldurs Gate, and good links.
anyone one mac who can't find editor related info here at least check their site.
    :)

    thanks for your help,
    ford

ps. for anyone who wants to reference the topic at interplay:
