[IMG] As those of you who routinely use Google probably noticed, one good old game - probably the good old game in the eyes of many people, myself included - has a bit of an anniversary today. Yep, Tetris, the game responsible for the loss of countless hours (and work-hours) of our lives was created one sunny day, 25 years ago, on the box-like computers in Dorodnicyn Computing Centre in Moscow, by a certain bearded programmer called Alexey Pajitnov. Some two years later it was ported into MS-DOS (and thus the PC) by a then 16-year old student called Vadim Gerasimov, then seen in a British software company who decided they just had to have it... and the rest is history. In the quarter of a century since it was coded for the Elektronika-60, the game has been ported to every hardware worth mentioning, sold (in one form or another) some 70 million copies, and has become one of the most familiar names in the history of gaming.

    Hail to the Tsar, baby!

Indeed. In a totally meaningless factoid, one of its earlier marketing slogans (when the rights were still held by a state company, pre-1991) was "From Russia with love!" Apparently someone had watched Bond films over there too ;) . Unfortunately, Nintendo changed it to "from Russia with fun."

By the way, who has played the 3-D version? I remember playing it way back in the early 90's, and had completely forgotten about it until I read about it in an article today.

I'm a bit late, but still, happy anniversary, Tetris. :)

One of the best (and brilliant in its simplicity) games of all times, no doubt about it.
