[IMG] Hey everyone. Well i've always wanted to try solo BG1, but i've always liked the idea of parties. So i was just wondering if it was worth it (expericence, lvling etc:) to take just a two man party, my PC and a NPC. My thought at the moment is a PC dwarf fighter/cleric and then take Montaron. Any advice would be welcome.

Oh yeah, I do that lots. Usually if I want to solo a non-thief, I'll bring a thief along for traps and such. You still level up pretty quickly, and you can use more than just basic tactics. For example, charge a jelly with your F/C, then have Monty backstab it from the other side. (Despite TotSC's claims to the contrary, it will still work. All they do is make it face a random direction while making it impossible to tell which direction it's facing; so long as you can ensure the direction, you can still backstab.)

Ok great. One more question, do you think Monty is a good choice? Or would another NPC work better?

Well, I usually take Imoen because she won't take no for an answer, but Monty would probably be an even better choice. The key is to take someone right at the beginning so their levels aren't much lower than yours. Keep in mind that you can get Xzar killed very quickly by having him take on the ogre to the east in hand to hand while you and Monty just shoot it. Then you can cut Xzar loose and it's just you and the Mont-ster.

@Drizzt: that is an easier way, but kind of cheesy.
@Felinoid: i took your advice, Xzars body is lying next to the orgres now. Thanks for your help.

Edit: i've just gotten to BEregost with my f/c and Monty and i've noticed that Monty seems to be getting a bigger portion of the parties XP than my PC, is there a reason?

Due to your being a multiclass character, when you met him he was higher level. It's a peculiarity to the game that multiclassed PCs get treated as one higher than their average level when choosing which version of the NPC to spawn. In this case, Monty would have joined you already having 2830 XP, and starting at level 1/2. So basically he's already got the lion's share, and now that you're splitting it evenly, he's going to be higher level than you forever. Oh well. ;)

A "dynamic duo" game is a ton of fun.

Actually, Monty's XP is less then mine, we're both multi-class and the same lvl 2/3 except he's about 200 less XP than my PC?

What makes you think he's getting more, then?

If you're just looking at the Record -> Information screen, that only tells you the XP value of the kills he's made. No matter what that says, XP is split evenly between the party members. If Monty beat up Sarevok all by himself, for example, the PC would still get half the XP.

You did get XP FedExing yourself around Candlekeep. IIRC, it's only 365XP or so.
