I always preferred to not get hit at all instead of just relying on big HP when making my characters, and it was always a problem in ToB where every peasant is a seasoned veteran and you seem to get hit even if your AC is less than -20(Doable with Swashbucklers). Then there are critical hits which have been a bane of d20 for a long time.

What are your thoughts on this? Are there any mods that address this issue? Or is there any weapon I could use which messes with enemy ThAC0?

If I recall correctly, Soul Reaver lowers (or is that increases? whichever makes it harder to hit) the enemies THAC0 by 2 on each successful hit. I never found this overly useful, as by the time they start having trouble hitting you, they're also almost dead.

Perhaps you could try a Blade. With its defensive spin you can get a very low AC.

In BG2 it's all about high DPS. That's why the Kensai and the Sorceror are by far the most powerful characters IMO.

Use an ioun stone or a helmet; no more critical hits.

if you have trouble with taking too much damage, make sure your frontline is well buffed (particularly haste + mass invisibility), and have your casters cast some disabling/enchantment spells to weaken enemies

great malison + chaos/slow makes group fights a lot easier

Hah, but it's still a normal hit, isn't it?

The thing is that 20-sided die always seemed a little too unforgiving to me, because you have 5% chance to completely mess something up or do it flawlessly(Generally speaking). If people of this world had a 5% chance of messing up any activity they do, I doubt anyone would live past 30.
Normally random mistakes are a little more random, especially for high level characters who did these things tens of thousands of times.

But yeah, that's a digression. What was Soul Reaver and where it could be found?

Yes, but you need to do a little quest and fight to get it.
