A "terrorist" by association.

David Hicks, an Australian national, has been held in Camp Xray for over a year now, because the US claims he is a terrorist.

According to Dr Rohan Gunaratna he is not a terrorist because "there is is no evidence that he is a member of Al-Qaeda and he never had the intention of attacking a civilian target."

Of course Hicks' family are trying to have him brought home, but as usual Mr John Coward, the supposed Prime Minister of Australia, does nothing.

Hicks lawyer stated that "he is being held in violation of the Geneva Convention. There has never been evidence that he has committed an offence."

So as a "terrosit by association" he is held against the Geneva Convention, yet the US shrieks with anger over the Geneva Convention not being upheld by the Iraqis.

Makes one wonder...

 

That's exactly true. The issue is is that the states doesn't need to live by any international treaty anywhere. The war on Iraq is just as bad as what Iraq did in Kuwait, what China did in Tibet, what the Serbs did in Kosovo and what Turkey is doing to the Kurds. In my opinion, the States should be made to listen. America is just as 'evil' as any country they make war with. The only difference is that they're doing it in the name of 'stability' and 'justice'. The main difference between the US and Saddam is that the atrocities the US commits (directly and indirectly) are never seen by the countries people unless they dig deep enough.

 

I've never understood why motivation matters, once you're in the middle of a war it's pretty much immaterial why you're doing this. The other guy is trying to kill you so philosophizing should be left behind. It's one of our people that's there so we should get him back, being shot out of nowhere in a battlefield is a LOT less painful than being tortured over the course of several weeks and the US would do something like that if they really thought he was a terrorist.

 

No, it's illegal for the states to torture him, per sae. The people of America wouldn't stand for it. What they can do, however, is hold him indefinatly without even telling him his charges or giving him a phone call.

 

That sounds like true justice.
